New Targets From FAB Defense

RTS1

When you’re shooting at close ranges, ricochet is always one of the top concerns. It doesn’t matter if you’re running a 3-gun course or training for CQB, the problem is the same, and now there’s going to be a target designed specifically for those situations.

FAB Defense has been manufacturing products for the Israeli military and law enforcement agencies since they were founded, and they’ve gained a good reputation based on the fact that their products stand up to the needs and high standards of those agencies. They’re behind the new target, the RTS, or Reactive Target System.

The RTS is made of long-lasting polymer, which is designed to be self-healing. Even the base is made of non-metal materials, so a stray bullet failing to strike the target itself won’t ricochet if it hits the stand. The company lists its longevity at “thousands of hits” which appears to translate to approximately 2,000 rounds. The target is capable of withstanding varying temperatures, rated for use between 0 and 50 degrees Celsius (32 degrees to 122 degrees Fahrenheit), performing despite changes in climate without changing its shape. It’s lightweight, which makes it easier to transport on your own, and set-up is easy. According to the company it doesn’t just reduce the chance of ricochet, it removes it, and, in fact, the RTS is listed as safe to use even at point-blank range.

This is a reactive system that can be set to different sensitivities by the user. That way you can take it down with just one shot or change the setting to stand up to rapid-fire shots. In addition, there’s the RTS Numerator, a wireless, electronic hits counter that lets you keep track of hits without leaving your spot. It has a large, highly visible digital readout and connects wirelessly with as many as nine targets, tracking hits for every target it’s connected with.

FAB Defense products such as the RTS Target are available in the U.S. through the Mako Group. The Mako Group is the exclusive importer of many well-known Israeli firearms products, with a heavy focus on tactical equipment.

Take a look at the Mako Group’s website at www.themakogroup.com, FAB Defense’s website at www.fab-defense.com, or the RTS page itself at http://www.fab-defense.com/en/category-target-systems/id-58/self-healing-reactive-target-kit-including-two-target-boards-.html. The RTS comes in black, blue, green, red, yellow, and gray. MSRP is not listed.

  • I feel like you undersold this thing, Katie. I checked Mako’s website, and they have a “Reactive Screaming System”. You can’t get that with steel targets without a real bad ricochet!

Can you program it to say “I just F- ing shot myself!”?
