Midland Releases New Wi-Fi Action Camera

XTC450VP-600x400

Not content to let GoPro continue to dominate the action-camera market, Midland has upped its game with its latest release including Wi-Fi to allow the user to start and stop footage. Further, with the appropriate new application on your phone, you can view, review, and edit footage in real-time.

It is complete with the usual high-definition specifications, 1080p and user-selectable lower resolution recording, taking stills, and slow-motion (albeit at much lower resolution). The battery lasts up to four hours (a huge improvement over GoPro) and a picatinny mount is available, as one would expect with a camera oriented to the outdoor enthusiast.

Retail for the Midland Wi-Fi HD camera is $219.99.

I’d never use it but seems like a decent amount of features for the price.

I use a weapon mounted camera in a way most people don’t think of. I mount it forward, on the dominant side, looking back at the shooter. It is very helpful in showing people flinch, trigger control/trigger finger safety issues, cheek weld issues, when they miss re-engaging a safety (as before moving), etc.

These can be good training aids in addition to mall ninja documentary makers.

      • TheNotoriousIUD

Sounds solid, so do you run a school or something? Military?

        • Budogunner

Oh no, not at all. I used to be A CCDW instructor and am an NRA RSO, but I have no military background and aren’t an elite trainer at any school.

I do work with family and friends as sorry of an ambassador to shoring sports. I like working with people new to firearms and helping them develop good safety habits in a comfortable, safe progression. No ego, no excess testosterone. Suppressed training platforms first, then step up to more recoil and noise when ready.

I’m no expert marksman, and one of my trademark sayings is “fear expert mentality” but I help people get to the point where they are safe to pursue further training. I just find new shooters need and deserve a little more attention before being thrown to the wolves.

I am considering opening a dojo, but that is a separate story. In both martial arts and firearms world’s, though, I believe in safety first. I’ve used video as a training tool on the mat, too. I have a head mount for my GoPro.

            Sounds cool, good luck.

Looks like the Contour series of action cams. I have used a ContourHD for years and have been happy with it, but its time to upgrade to something with phone connection functionality. These look pretty good for the price.

  • Ok, but what is the quality like.

Every GoPro competitor I’ve seen forget that image quality is the thing people will care the most about in the end.

The sourness of horrible image quality will last a lot longer than the sweetness of a lower price.

Maybe someone will now actually spot a bigfoot in 1040P. All the pictures to now have been REAL grainy. Actually, game cameras are the best way I know to shut down a bigfoot believer. Think how many millions of game pictures have been made over the years without one 8X10 glossy of bigfoot.
