POTD: Team TFB (Identify the guns & helmets)

4 of us

Four TFBers got together this weekend in Texas to shoot a selection of historical weapons. From Left to Right: Ian McCollum, of Forgotten Weapons and TFB, Alex C of TFBTV, Nate F of TFB, Patrick R of TFBTV. Expect to see their exploits soon on TFBTV and on Ian’s awesome Forgotten Weapons channel.

Can you identify all the guns? What about the helmets?

Pedersen rifle, M1 Garand, M1941 Johnson rifle, M16A1
    Less sure on the helmets
British “brodie” helmet, US M1 helmet, Soviet SSH-40 helmet (?), US PASGT (?)

    • ostiariusalpha

The problem with the Soviet helmets is that you can’t tell the СШ-39, СШ-40, & СШ-60 apart without a closer examination.

  • Tassiebush

Ian has the Pedersen rifle and Commonwealth helmet (and US WW1) from both world wars. Alex probably has a M1 Garand (going on muzzle, gas tube and charging handle) and matching era steel GI helmet. Nathaniel has a Johnson rifle and perhaps the same helmet (I just can’t tell. It could even be a Russian one?). Patrick has the M16a1 (with 20 round mag) and Vietnam era kevlar GI helmet. Those are my guesses anyway.

    • Grindstone50k

Last helmet is a PSAGT from the 80s to 90s, not Vietnam.

      • Tassiebush

Ah you’re right! Wrong shape and camo!

      • Phil Hsueh

        It’s also PAGST, not PSAGT.

        • Haunted Puppeteer

          Actually, it’s PASGT. Pronounced pass-get.

          Sauce: google.

          • Phil Hsueh

My bad, you’re right. It seems that that I’ve always misspelled it all of these years.

        • Grindstone50k

Yeah, it’s been a while since I’ve even typed that word.

    • We didn’t have kevlar in Vietnam. Those were all old standard pots just like WWII.

  • ostiariusalpha

    Huh. I guess a Vickers T1E3, M1 Garand, M1943 Johnson, & maybe an
M16A1. The picture quality is low, and the guys are holding the rifles
at such an angle as to obscure most of the really giveaway features. As for the helmets: some kind of Brodie, a Stahlhelm(?), an M1, and a PSAGT.

  • Stay tuned guys, we have some excellent footage of the Pedersen rifle coming!

    • No, really, I was there and I’m psyched to see the videos.

  • Barry

Hmmm, you guys don’t look like what I imagined. In my mind, there are four guys who look like Chuck Norris, Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson, and Chris Kyle.

    • Haunted Puppeteer

One of these four is in dire need of a barber.

      Or a hedge trimmer. Sheesh.

      • ostiariusalpha

Yeah, Alex! Cut that shag you hippy! LOL!

      • You’ll have to go through my girlfriend for that one.

        • Giolli Joker

          She’s into Ewoks. 😛

          • I only look short because when Alex was a kid they stretched him out like taffy, so he’s about twelve feet tall.

    • You’re absolutely right that I look like a movie star, though. Unfortunately, it’s Chris Farley.

  • Sarah_Palin

    helmets: ww1 doughboy,m-56 soviet, m1 steelpot, pasgt
    guns: Pederson, hell if I know,Johnson, xme16

  • Jim_Macklin

L-R, black shirt, WWI British helmet used by Dough boys with M1903, red shirt WWII USGI helmet, M1 Garand, grey shirt, Johnson rifle and looks like a Russian helmet, red shirt, US GI Kevlar and M16/AR first gen triangle forend.

  • Giolli Joker

I hope it doesn’t sound offensive, but I can’t help to think something along the lines of this:
“Coming from the opposite sides of the BMI, a Team was born.”

  • Ryan Marks

    Nerd Alert!!!

  • roguetechie

    Nathaniel,
You know you love the M1941!! (do you know how many times I started writing this sentence but it came out sounding … Wrong)

  • Brian M

    From left to right,

    #1: M1915 Brodie helmet w/ No1 MK4 SMLE Lee-Enfield
#2: SSh40 kaska w/ SKS? Can’t tell, durak — your sling is in the way.
    #3: USGI M1 w/ Johnson M1941
    #4 PASGT helmet w/ AR15 standin for M4 Carbine.

  • AbeFroman

You’re all wrong. Alex is wearing a Schuberth B826 Kevlar Helmet. While used by many European countries, I will guess that one is German.

    • ostiariusalpha

It’s difficult to tell a Stahlhelm apart from the B826 Gefechtshelm without better detail on the brim, but Alex’ helmet seems to have more flair in the back than you would normally find on the Schuberth. Any of the helmets would be easy-peasy to identify from a profile view.
