KickStarter Object of Desire: Twelve Gauge Phone Charger

Just in case bullet air valve covers, revolver cylinder shift knobs, NRA bumper stickers, bullet hole decals, etc…etc… etc… were not enough, KickStarter has yet another firearm-themed item (that somehow made it through their Terms & Conditions). The Twelve Gauge Phone Charger is aptly named, as its just as described. Basically, a Fiocchi shell, primer punched out, with a USB dongle hanging out the rear.

You can get one for backing $15. As of this writing, $2,964 has been pledged out of the goal of $7,500.

Frankly, I am surprised the NRA store has not bought them all out…

1 amp? Is this 2011? All the new stuff utilizes 2+ amps. Amazon has chargers for multiple devices in the 5-9 amp range. Cool idea, but very underpowered unless you’re charging a Kindle or a 3 year old smartphone or something.

Even new $100 head units already have USB ports that make this product a waste of time and money.

Are people still surprised when scammers use Kickstarter to get money for making Cracker Jacks prizes? “I’m an able bodied adult, I need 50 grand from a bunch of strangers so I can make a tactical comb out of Kydex.”

A real 12 shell? Illegal in New Jersey.

Also, the US port is on a dangling wire? Seriously? I can get cigarette plug chargers with the USB port flush to the plug in a little tray at my local gas station for $2.

How much of this sticks out of the lighter socket? They should have used Aquila mini shells.

We are offering a 2.1 amp charger if we can reach our stretch goal. 1 amp works on every phone, and go pro even recommends using 1 amp, so we still think it’s effective. Vitsaus, we really aren’t a scam. Real people here. Grindstone – we use a dangling USB because it allows us to keep the front of the brass in tact and we thought that was crucial to keep the look of the shell. As far as the “coolness” is concerned, that’s an opinion and in ours it’s pretty darn cool. We plan to use high brass remington and fed premium for the kickstarter rewards.
