Cold Tracer Handgun Ammo

VIP

G2 Research announced the introduction of a 9mm tracer round that does not have any heat or accidental fire concerns. G2 Research states the VIP round is safe for use both indoors and outdoors.

This video explains more about the new rounds. It also addresses some of the concerns put forth by members of the online media who have posted not-so-glowing reviews of the company’s existing product line.

According to the company’s site, the rounds use a 95 grain projectile and are rated for 1,200 fps. (Note: the press release states the velocity at 1,150 fps.) G2 Research lists the suggested retail price of this ammunition at $19.95 for a box of 20 rounds. A .45 ACP load is expected soon.

Well, as a former member of the “G2 RIP haterz club”, I must say I’m actually kind of impressed by this stuff.

  • Phil Hsueh

Sounds interesting but it will probably not be allowed in CA.

    • Trollbrary

Dude, water isn’t even allowed in California.

    • DW

Known to the state of California to cause cancer

  • Anomanom

    Cyalume tracer? Yes? No?

    • Giolli Joker

Cyalume technologies has a patent on that (US7487728 B2).
I can’t tell if G2 got license to use it.
There’s at least another relevant patent in the field (US8402896 B1).

  • Dirt

That video (and their website) completely ignores the obvious question: How does it work?

  • BrandonR

If I remember from way back or possibly a similar product, it was a reflective colored dot stuck to the back of the bullet that reflected the light from the muzzle flash.

    • SGT Fish

same thing. it was a special glow sticker you stuck to the bottom of the bullet. probably the same company working with G2 research to sell/make it.

  • Tassiebush

Matching this ammo up with a calico, or dressed up broomhandle mauser would make for a poor man’s laser gun

    • MrEllis

      Pew pew pew!

  • Grindstone50k

All for the low, low price of $45.99 per round!

  • DAN V.

    +1 for innovation and humor.

“shut up competition funded internet baby” lol awesome

  • Slim934

    Gotta love their marketing.

  • Mister Thomas

Wow, very cool. When I was first watching this I was wondering if the back of the projectile had a Reflective Luminous coating used in street signs and high visibility clothing – but it’s similar to other glow in the dark materials that are phosphorescent.

Glow Amoo’s webpage openly & clearly states that they are working with G2 Research.

They also make (made?) stickers for reloaders. I’ll probably try some if they’re still around when I start loading my own.
