Will Smith Working With Taran Tactical

Will smith

Colion Noir posted this video on his Facebook page.

It could be training for the upcoming 2016 movie, Suicide Squad, where Will Smith will be playing Deadshot.

Will Smith just released a photo of his costume for the movie. Does anyone recognize that handguard and muzzle device? He has good trigger discipline in this pic.

  • KestrelBike

Ugh someone PLEASE teach him the C-clamp!!! ;D

    • Herr Wolf

      you mean the “Costa Clamp”?

      • Mike

        Costa Operator Clamp

        • Squirreltakular

          So, the “COC” clamp?

          • Gematech On Line

            Chris Costa Operator Clamp?

    • sgt fish

yea and throw some dildos on the rail while your at it. worst suggestion ever

      • KestrelBike

        Lighten up, Francis. Lol

      • Nicks87

WTF? Why would you even think of that? Unless maybe you have some repressed feelings… Maybe a Freudian slip? Or maybe you look at firearms as a phallic symbol?

        • MR

Lighten up, Francis. Sounds like you have some repressed feelings of your own.

    • Robert S.

If used for improvement and not for show it is the best form there is. His hand is to close to the base of the forend, and there is to much downward bend at his elbow; both of these contribute to more recoil, and lack of control. Simple rotation and forward Extension, NOT Hyper-extension will correct this.

      • Herr Wolf

You must be a Tier One Operator

      • valorius

        o.O

      • MR

In the second group of shots in the video, his support hand is further down the forend. I didn’t see for sure if he was using the C.O.C. Grip (TM), possibly just demonstrating progress.

      • Hellbilly

Because a 5.56 AR has soooo much recoil that has to be dealt with utilizing specialized stances and grips.

        • Real men can control rifles with just one hand, right?

    • valorius

You mean the ridiculous trendy way all the tactical johnnies hold their rifle to look cool?

I got news, once an M4 gets hot enough, the last thing you’d ever grab is the front of the handguard by the gas block.

You might also find that when people are shooting back you dont want to stick your off hand out of your foxhole or fighting position to engage your beloved C-clamp hold either.

      • Nicks87

The “C-clamp” works just fine for some people. You’re comments really do make you sound uninformed. Why criticize something you obviously know nothing about? Shooting from different positions is about adaptability, if you don’t feel comfortable with the C-clamp that’s fine, don’t use it. But to belittle the technique and poke fun at it just shows your ignorance.

        • valorius

Yeah, i know nothing about shooting rifles. Ive only been doing it for 40 years. And it’s not like i qualified expert on the M16 four times or anything. 😉

The “C-clamp” is not tactically sound.

          • Nicks87

Oh, four times! I’m so sorry, you must be a legend among your fellow soldiers… Just because you’ve been doing something for a long time doesn’t mean you’re doing it right. A lot has changed in the last 40 years when it comes to firearms tactics and training.

          • valorius

Im sure you could easily outshoot an old timer like Carlos Hathcock with your C-clamp tacti-hold, you know with his ‘outmoded’ shooting style.

            Save your gimmicks.

          • Nicks87

What does that even mean? When did this turn into a competition between me and Carlos Hathcock? Shooting from cover at long distances is totally different than shooting standing unsupported without cover… You can shoot with your support hand up your a** for all I care as long as it is accurate and consistent. No need for “gimmicks” or legendary sniper powers.

          • valorius

Im pretty sure this all started when another poster said Will Smith “needs” to learn the ultra- ninja C-clamp-tical kung fu grip position.

          • Ryfyle

But it looks so kewl!! It’s so tacticool and agressively awkward!

Seriorsly I wanna see some one C-Clamp a mosin.

          • valorius

I’m sure if i adopted the latest tactiCOOL fad, instead of shooting a mere 40 out of 40 on rifle quals, id have shot a 41!!! 😉

Oh where oh where was this life saving technique-ta-cool when i was a soldier?!? 😀

  • hami

I assume this will be as good as the other Ayer films and I am looking froward to it.

Sabotage had me yearning for a SCAR heavy and if this movie turns out just as good I could see myself slapping together a maroon and gold AR15…

I hope that handguard isn’t a one-off and someone can identify it.

  • Wetcoaster

More interesting is that the configuration in the video differs from the promo poster in terms of stock and optics. I’m surprised they didn’t use the ACOG for training as well if that’s what it was for

  • Bill Bradford

I can’t help but think of the scene in “I Am Legend” where he grabbed an M4 out of an umbrella basket and then fired 34 rounds out of a 30-round mag… but I’m picky like that.

    • I would rather post as a guest

Annnnnd if you were even pickier like me you would have noticed that M4 has a 16″ barrel vs 14.5 and the reticle in his acog is so very wrong, but what else is new with inaccuracies with guns and movies.

      • MrEllis

Did anyone notice the vampire things?

    • Grindstone50k

You counted all 34 rounds? What are you, Archer?

    • Ripley

In the “Fred outside” scene he fired first 20 and soon after 20+ without reload.

    • MR

Did Will Smith edit that film, too?

  • MR

Looks like either a Flaming Pig or a golf ball launcher muzzle device. The handguard? That’s easy. It’s the one that says “I am the Light- The Way” on the side. If it’s not commercially available yet, grab a solid tube, cut the appropriate holes in it, then screw a picatinnny to the top. Somebody should really tell these guys about M-lok, that’s a lot of wasted rail up there.

    • John

It’s not wasted. If Slade wants to hit something with iron sights at 1000 meters, he will adjust accordingly.

      • Yond

I do believe you just mixed up Deathstroke and Deadshot, but yes, if Deadshot wanted to, he most certainly will use irons for a kilometer shot.

        • John

…yes. Yes I did. Thank you. Sheesh.

        • valorius

The greatest sniper in human history used iron sights exclusively.

          Just saying. 🙂

        • MR

Just so long as it helps them defeat the Klingons, that’s what’s important.

  • Esh325

Will Smith has criticized American gun culture, yet this firearms company is assisting him? I guess it just shows you all that principle means nothing compared to the almighty dollar.

    • MR

The firearms company is trying to help get firearms handling represented in an accurate manner. Guns are going to continue to appear in movies, and unfortunately, so are people who blame them for all the World’s problems. If we can get them to handle the guns in an appropriate, accurate manner, they’ll be a positive influence regardless of their political views. Trigger discipline, for example.

      • Esh325

Do you think the average movie goer who most likely doesn’t know or doesn’t care to know about guns will be able to tell the difference? It’s all about money.

        • John

Suicide Squad is published by DC Comics and uses characters from the Batman universe.

I guarantee you, there WILL be movie goers who will know more about the type and function of all the characters’ individual weapons that you will ever want to know.

          Because that’s how fanboys roll.

          • Brett

            THAT’S HOW WE ROOOOOOOOLLL!!!!

          • MR

So really, Taran Tactical should be working with the artists who draw the books. Make sure they’re off to a good start when they create the characters.

    • HardcoreSlot

Will Smith is not anti 2A. Colion Noir made a post on his facebook yesterday where he was talking about innercity gang violence and unfortunatly used the term “gun culture” with a negative connotation. Later he goes on to say “A gun sittin’ on a table ain’t gonna kill nobody. It’s about people.”

      • JLR84

Indeed. The “gun culture” that you and I participate in is not the same “gun culture” as you see in violent inner city neighborhoods. It’s possible to criticize one without the other.

    • Asdf

I was wonder if he was some hypocritical piece of Hollywood turd. Glad to see he is willing to glorify the gun for money, yet tell us we’re bad for owning them.

  • If you didn’t tell me that the movie was called “The Suicide Squad” I would’eve guest that this was a promotional Image for A Borderlands movie.

  • valorius

It boggles my mind how someone with Jada Pinkett at home runs around town sword swallowing. o.O

    • MR

Are you implying that the man who wrote “Big Willy Style” might not be straight? Not that there’s anything wrong with that, live and let live, I suppose.

      • valorius

All i’m sayin is that if i had jada pinkett at home, i’d be hittin’ that to the exclusion of all other sword play whatsoever….

  • Mitch

That rifle ought to be rocking a UB with the sm color scheme. ust seem it would fit the overall look that much more. JMHO…

  • Nicks87

Taran Butler is a beast, Smith couldn’t have picked a better place to train.

  • gggplaya

I remember a pic at shotshow of a hangars company making any crazy hanguard design you want for reasonable prices.

  • MIke H

All the folks getting bent out of shape over whether or not he should be using the “c-clamp”, or some other style of holding the fore end are missing a bigger picture… a popular, big name Hollywood actor who is not anti-2A is shown shooting an AR15 and generally enjoying himself while not looking like a fool or jerk.

    It’s the little victories…

    • Nicks87

Exactly, but don’t expect the clowns to understand that. They would rather make stupid jokes about a proven technique.

      • valorius

Proven to burn the hell out of your hand by holding the gas block (when an AR gets hot enough youll be holding onto the mag well before all is said and done), and proven to expose more of your offhand arm and hand from behind cover.

        It’s brilliant i say! Brilliant!

        • Nicks87

Like I said, you really have no clue, do you.

          • valorius

Maybe if i went to some tacticool weekend training courses id be an expert. Like you.
