Looking for help from a German, a Russian and a Japanese reader (UPDATE: No more volunteers required)

UPDATE: Many readers kindly offered to help. We do not need any more volunteers. Thank you.

Dear Readers,

TFB is very much dedicated to our overseas readers. With that in mind we would like to start with subtitles for those readers in Germany, France, Russia and Japan. I would like for our readers to be able to enjoy watching our TFBTV videos with subtitles in their native language. I am already getting all our videos transcripted into English to make it easier for readers who are deaf or have hearing problems and for our foreign readers.

I already have a French volunteer, but I am still looking for a volunteer from Germany, Russia and Japan. To translate a 5 minute video would probably take you 30-60 minutes once per week. UPDATE: We only need one more Japanese translator.

Ideally you would be a native speaker, familiar with gun slang in your language, rather than a foreigner who knows the language.

If you can volunteer, email me at steve@thefirearmblog.com.

Kind regards,

Steve Johnson

  • Give me a holler if you guys need help in French.

  • Paul Joly

Two is better than one 😉 (English to French)

  • Paul Epstein

Uh, not a linguist, but you should probably correct the spelling of ‘Japanese’ in the title.

    • kalashnikev

Maybe he needs an English speaker too?

  • G0rdon_Fr33man

As a European I´m annoyed by the French and Germans who refuse to learn English…

    • Blake

      …and Swahili.

    • Zugunder

Just out of curiosity, how old are you?

      • G0rdon_Fr33man

Not sure that is relevant, but I´m old enough to own guns 😛

    • Giolli Joker

As an Italian that had to study English, I agree.
English in Italy is not widely spoken, but at least we try… in other countries the approach seems to be much more conservative.

      • G0rdon_Fr33man

Speak English to a Frenchman, and you are met with the stare of death.

        • Michael Mabey

Speak Canadian French in France and be told to speak in anglaise

        • Fonfon130

That’s cause we do the effort to speak English when we travel in the US. We expect some kind of reciprocity 🙂

          • G0rdon_Fr33man

But your language is irrelevant on the international scene, just as mine (Norwegian) are.

    • Jon

Nobody is forced to learn a foreign language because a speaker of the other language is annoyed. If you want to communicate or get information from them, you should make an effort to learn their communicating way. It’s the correct and morally right way.

      Another European.

      • Giolli Joker

On their soil, ok. Elsewhere, they should do the effort.

  • Raoul O’Shaugnessy

I can do Klingon if you need.

  • Lance

    Go Russian gun bloggers!!!!!

  • Michael Pham

Not saying its a bad idea, but from my experience with Germans and Germany a translation to English isn’t terribly necessary.

There might be selection bias in my experience (applicable here too), but I don’t think I’ve ever encountered one who wasn’t at least conversant in English.

    • I have many times, especially in the east or in rural areas.

    • Giolli Joker

Considering that TFB, on US soil, at Shot Show couldn’t interact properly with Korth and GSG representatives, I’d believe otherwise.

  • The Truth of the Matter

    We loves the Japanses, precious.

  • Vitor Roma

In case you guys want someone to do portuguese, just gimme an olá.

    • Thanks Vitor, I would like to first get a few languages up and running. I will get in touch when I am ready to add more.

      • Giolli Joker

If you’ll need Italian, you know where to find me. 😉

      • Vitor Roma

Since we brazilian have little to no access to guns, we rely on gun porn made mostly by americans.

In case Russians read this. Clever. Took me a minute (along with Google translate), haha.

      • Sergey

Thanks ^^, I know there is a bunch of them here, hopefully they don’t have to much to critique ;))

        • Cal S.

Awesome! Didn’t realize that, but that’s good!

    • guest

Your text has some strange wording here and there, but overall it’s pretty good. I think i wouldn’t translate it any better.

      • Sergey

Thanks for feedback! yes i know, i was thinking about giving it more emotional and fluid translation, as its done in the movies, but my inner lawyer decided to stay close to the text as possible, i guess should of provided two versions 😉

  • Jon

Steve, I can help you with Basque laguage. 😉

    • Hi Jon,

Thanks for the offer, unfortunately I am not able to add more languages just yet. I will be in touch.

  • T Kurata

I can help you with Japanese translation.
Should I contact you via email?

  • A.g.

I can help also for French if necessary.

  • crisara772

if you need some help with spanish just make me know, im not profesional at this but i do know the gun slang used in the best spaniard publications on the topic wich is generally accepted as the most accurated, latin american publications are scarce and generally use plain wrong translations like translating barrel as “barril” wich is actually the kind of stuff you use to stock beer or rum.

    • I am fluent in Spanish and I believe some other staff members are as well.

  • Osamu

I’m well-versed in the Japanese. Maybe I can help?

  • Bronezhilet

If you ever need a Dutch translator, gimme a call, I’ve been a semi-professional translator for a bunch of years now. Furthermore, I do know my way around the terminology.

  • jon

let me know if you want to add Chinese in there.
