Zach sent us a photo of his first AR-15. He built it frmo a BCM 16″ midlength upper and a Spikes Tactical lower. He tells me it is very soft shooting. Nice gun Zach.

Looks fun. Have a ball Zach!

  • JSmath

    Looks like a nice build.

  • Zachary marrs

    Thanks!

  • Watch out Zach, you are embarking on a dangerous road my friend, lol!

    • Zachary marrs

      Too late lol

Dude, I totally dig your gun. I built this about 3 or months ago. Aero lower and upper, Dissipator barrel with a BTE adjustable gas block. Yeah, I completely ripped the Adams Arms piston gun off minus the whole piston setup, I just really like that look. Have not shot it yet though so Im curious if I can get it to run reliably. Its not my first build and not my last, its addicting.

Llewellyn, I think your cat walked across your keyboard. 🙂

        Typo in the article

        Probably my fault

  • Christopher Armour

Nice. I’m building nearly the exact same rifle.

  • Vitsaus

Perfect choice of upper, great choice of color, nice layout/configuration, classic and modern at the same time.

  • ValleyForge77

Nice build, Z-man! I swear I want to write a post (or maybe even a book) on ‘My first AR’ someday. I remember when I got my first, I started researching and found the commonality and prevalence of the statement ‘my first AR’ to be a little musing in itself. “why would so many people want more than one?”, I asked myself. Ha Ha Ha. Many years later – and many AR’s later – I can look back and laugh. MY first AR sits at the center of my collection, as the point where it all started. And I can track my progression of knowledge and experience from there. It’s one of the cherished items in my collection because all that I learned from it, not because it’s the best or most valuable item. Anyway, nice build man. BCM and Spikes are awesome and you kept it simple. Good job man. So… have you started thinking about your next one yet? 🙂

    • Zachary marrs

Either an m16a4 clone, or an m16a1 clone, decisions, decisions

      And thanks!

      • ValleyForge77

Ahh very cool brother. Sounds like you got the itch 🙂

  • Nicks87

Nice rifle man but ditch the carry handle, its 2015.

    • Zachary marrs

I ordered a dd 1.5 rear a couple of days ago, and am saving up for some type of optic, probably an aimpoint

The carry handle was a gift from a friend, not too crazy about the weight

      • Dual Sport

Absolutely nothing wrong with using what works for you, and iron sights still work.

        • Nicks87

No problems with irons here. Carry handles are just not very functional.

    As the kids say, CLEAN!

    • Jerry Garcias

      And that’s a good thing!

  • Dan Atwater

I like it. Sweet “KISS” rifle

  • Way to keep it simple!

  • Broz

Nice build…just got my 4 in bench vise mounted and planning on swapping out my current non chromed,1 in 9, post ban/faux flash hider barrel for a new 1 in 8 nitrided barrel with a YHM Phantom flash hider….also considering refinishing it with the new Duracoat canned spray in either foliage green or FDE…

  • Matthew

Awesome first build. Just like the other’s have said, simple & classy. You get the softer shooting with the full rifle tube, good choice!

  • JumpIf NotZero

Very nice! Now go take a class from a reputable group. When it comes time for an optic, the H1 on an absolute mount would be nice for that gun.

I’d also recommend a 5.11 two-banger or a maxpedition go-bag. I wish someone would have started me off with what you have and those tidbits! Would have saved me a lot of money.

    Good start, keep it simple.

  • Esh325

Are there any militaries that use mid lengths?

    • Zachary marrs

I think the us military uses a very small amount, normally acquired through unit purchases, otherwise im not too sure

  • Ratcraft

I did one a few years back with the same furniture, but a 20″ doublestar upper. Spikes lower. Nice choice

  • Mr. Fosi

What is that stock? And the handguard and grip?

    • Zachary marrs

      Magpul moe fixed rifle stock
magpul moe midlength handgaurd and magpul moe pistol grip

      • Mr. Fosi

        Great! Thanks!

  • jagervw

Looks like the one i cobbled together almost a year ago…
