Ultra-Cheap AR Lower Build For The Holidays

In the spirit of giving, Gun News’ Darryl Blonski has endeavored to make the cheapest possible AR-15 lower receiver that money can buy (so that there is all the more left over for gifts for his family). What do the fruits of this exercise in inexpense look like?

Other States

Anderson AR-15 Lower Receiver

Palmetto State Armory A2 LPK

Palmetto State Armory Enhanced LPK

AR-15 Armorer’s Wrench

Roll-pin Punch Set

Jeweler’s Hammer

Birchwood Casey Aluminum Black Metal Touch-Up

Less than $200? Not bad at all. I’ve spent more on books in the past month! With all new parts (as opposed to gun show “mystery components”), the completed gun should run better than the price tag would suggest, too!

What’s the cheapest build our readers have ever made?

I guess he just had an upper laying around…?

The original article is titled, “Cheapest AR15 Lower build for the holidays.” So they both just reposted it, and reposted it poorly.

  • Menger40

You’re missing some important parts, there.

  • Very nice for CA folks too although it doesnt account for things like sights or magazines.

  • TexasPigHunter

um … good luck with that thing at the range … my 3 year old with her spinach will be more deadly than that thing.

Sorry should have read the other post before I posted… but come on guys that’s pretty bad!

  • Phillip Shen

Hey, forgot to add at least 10$ for that ridiculous bullet button!

  • Geoffry K

I did cheaper. 80% lower $50. LPK $50. MagPul stock and buffer kit $70.
Mated to my DPMS Sportical upper. Sold the DPMS lower and stock for $190.
    $20 ahead.

Could be even cheaper if you have access to all the tools at work like I do. Then can spend a little extra to get a nice burnt bronze cerakote or something.

    • Zachary marrs

The only tools ive ever used for the 5 lowers ive built was a a hammer and a kitchen knife, and a monkey wrench

      Uppers are a different story

      • sianmink

A kitchen knife? Do I even want to know?

        • Zachary marrs

Are you my wife? If so, then no, i was just kidding 😉

        • Zachary marrs

In all seriousness, i use it to hold down the takedown pin detent

  • David Lowrey

Can you guys post a cheapest entire gun ar build?

  • me ohmy

I ***WISH*** an ANDERSON lower was only 49.00 in MARYLAND… can’t touch them for under 189.99

  • WasThere

Does anyone what handguard that is? I looks like it doesnt have the narrow contour towards the muzzel

  • Cheese_McQueen

    $35 m4 stock kit + $49 Anderson lower + $29 PTAC lower parts kit = $113 lower.

    Throw a $249 PTAC upper and a $19 carry handle and you have a $381 M4 build.

    • Phillip Cooper

I’m quite interested in a source and part number for the $250 upper…

      • Cheese_McQueen

It was a deal that is no longer available.

  • gje975

How about posting the parts list and prices for the rest of the rifle pictured?

  • Cheese_McQueen

    $19 carry handle > $50 red dot.

The goal was to make it stupid cheap. Currently I am working on a stupid cheap SBR AR15 build.
