Vhyrus sent us his and his girlfriend’s primary carbine/pistol combinations. He wrote …

These are the primary rifles and handguns for myself and my girlfriend. My setup is a left hand Tavor with a Sightmark Ultra dual shot, Magpul MBUS, blackhawk 2 point sling, and adjustable foregrip. The pistol is a Walther P99 AS Defense Kit model in .40 S&W. The other combo is a Zastava M92 PAP pistol with a SB 47 brace. It has a Midwest Industries quad rail forend with a Primary Arms red dot and a Magpul AFG, as well as a compensator and light. The pistol is a Sig SP2022 in 9MM. The AK pistol is actually slightly longer than the Tavor. I included a side by side for comparison.

The top photo shows the bullpup advantage: Short Barreled Rifle length with carbine-length barrel.

What’s the barrel length on the AK? And what velocities are expected from that barrel length?

I know I like 30 cm barrels for general purpose AKs, handy without affecting velocity much.

    • Vhyrus

Barrel length is 10 inches (26 cm) roughly. Not sure on velocity but I know 7.62×39 isn’t as bad out of short barrels.

      • mig1nc

How’s the muzzle blast on that comp with such a short barrel?

        • Vhyrus

Just big enough to be fun.

  • USMC03Vet

    Nice. A 2022!

    • BattleshipGrey

      The best looking Sig IMO.

  • me ohmy

TAVOR…everytime.. but that is a nice AK

  • thedonn007

You have back up sights for your back up sights on the Tavor.

    • Vhyrus

Yeah. I hate the built in Tavor sights so I decided to throw some MBUS on there instead.

      • Andrew Hobby

Wait – is that TINY speck between the rear MBUS and the red-dot the “backup sight”? Holy crap. I’ve had warts bigger than… uhh… nevermind.

        • Vhyrus

The built in sights are folded down in the pic. You can’t see them.

    • Chase Buchanan

      Yo dawg…

  • Beranimus

I wish I could get my wife into shooting. Congrats to you. And great looking firearms.

  • DiverEngrSL17K

Very nice job(s), Vhyrus — excellent combinations of proven, practical after-market accessories and replacement parts that sustain a solidly functional level of high quality without sacrificing performance or costing an arm and a leg either.

If I’m not mistaken the PAP comes from the factory with the BHO safety…

      • DiverEngrSL17K

I think you’re right — thanks for the reminder!

    • Vhyrus

The safety is the stock safety, but you’re right about the other 2.

      • DiverEngrSL17K

Yes, I’d forgotten all about PAP’s being supplied with a BHO lever — thank you for sharing your builds.

This is a great illustration of the OAL advantage of bullpups.

A few companies appear to have the trigger issue licked as well.

  • FourString

Holy crap. That’s a pretty good illustration of the advantage of a bullpup. (!)

  • BattleshipGrey

That’s too bad, especially because they used to list them at a great price (not sure what they go for now).
