Could anybody explain the small explosions that seem to come up after rounds/rockets hit the ground?

    • Most of what you see are parts of bullets and rockets coming apart and bouncing up in the air. The stuff is hot so it really shows on night vision. In the daytime I doubt you would really notice it. Of course some of that is junk on the ground flying in every direction.

  • Fiveseven

Kinda looks like the Enterprise firing its photon torpedoes.

  • SRG

Small explosions are probably enemy caches. And the first bird is an MH-60 DAP, not an Apache.

    • TV-PressPass

I definitely thought to myself: that looks more blackhawk than Apache.

    • J.T.

Oh ya. Definitely a DAP. The combination of Mini-guns, 30mm, and rockets gives it away.

Also, this is from at least 2007.

    • 1leggeddog

Yeah that was a combat fitted Blackhawk.

Sweet Jesus, that is beautiful. I wonder how many bad guys they got in all of that. Sure seemed like they were pounding the same space over and over. Would be awesome if we also had the FLIR footage from inside the Helo’s. Man, that would sure give me confidence as a GI on the ground, having those birds on your shoulder.

    Especially things like this.

Who has the rope, and where can I get a vest like Il Duce’s?

  • Arcane

This is ancient… from like 2004.

    • sid_goldberg

Right- we’ve been in and out of that clustef### so many times now.

I love that scene, when he fires that Glock 26 into the air. Willem Dafoe is the man!

Sound like two different weapons being used too me. The first with the tracer rounds in probably a M134C Minigun. And the second, sounds like an “aerial” M2 HMG.

    • J.T.

It isn’t an Apache, it is a MH-60 DAP. So the 3 things that are being fired are twin M134 Miniguns, 30mm rounds from an M230 Chain gun, and Hydra 70 rockets.

  • Peadair

You are not excused for that quote. Instead I praise you. Good show, old chap.

  • That first bird seriously looks like an H-60

  • Brandon Davis

I remember that one well: DAPs and AH-6s at the Yarmouk traffic circle in Mosul in early 2005.

  • gunslinger

what kind of target required that much firepower?
