Donetsk & Lugansk People’s Republic Now Making Guns

The self-proclaimed rebel Federal State of Novorossiya, the unrecognized confederation of Donetsk People’s Republic and Lugansk People’s Republic located inside Ukraine, are now manufacturing their own DIY submachine guns. The Novorussian SMG appears to fire a 9mm round, either 9x18mm Makarov or 9x19mm NATO, from a simple blowback action and a threaded barrel (with optional suppressor).

The rebels seem to have no shortage of weapons, both heavy and light. The real purpose of this announcement is probably to send the message: “you can try cutting us off, but we will just make our own guns”.

DIY, like they did with those anti aircraft missiles?

    • dan citizen

      This is what I imagine…

    • dp

The 30mm cannon, actually. And we talk armaments, real ordnance for change.

Well if the Chechens could do it:

‘Terrorists’ negating terrorists (Majdanski bunch) are – liberators of their people. If to be correct, let’s be correct!

    • BigSal

They are a self defense force Nick. The terror has been delivered to them by the “government” in Kiev. No politics here. Read more, post less.

      Tovarish, firearms – not politics.

      • Nick Dubrowski

Taking in account that those DIY weapons could potentially be used against my fellow citizens it’s not mere politics for me. But it’s second time I see in this blog that people here don’t understand what’s happening in Ukraine and show support to terrorist actions against my people. Not gonna follow TFB anymore

        • dp

Good luck to you Dubrowski; do something for “your people” now! We can handle without…. hopefully.
I am certainly glad to see that Steve is not taking sides and calls names as they should be. I am of same kind. If someone calls themselves XYZ, they are for me ‘XWZ’; that’s it.
And as always – guns are just what they are and they do not have political stripes.

        • Nick that’s totally up to you. We stay as far away from politics as possible and that will never change.
While I understand your passion on the subject TFB is not CNN or any of those outlets that specialize in situations such as what’s happening in Ukraine.

Who and how have their terrorised?

This needs to be in fallout 4

no stock? not even as an option? will this be controllable?

  • dp

Whaaaat! Would you believe that? That pulls carpet right under official line which says that they are fed with everything from mother Russia. Now back to (homemade) guns… they must have resources and know how, that’s for sure.
Btw, how do you like Novorossia flag? It bears certain resemblance to history of U.S.

    • Porty1119

I love it. I recall having seen a similar one in media related to the Russian Navy, including its ensign.

  • Eric S

I’d buy one. Looks like something out of a bad sci-fi movie. And still more innovative than most of what’s being produced commercially.

    • Cymond

      A blowback 9mm is innovative?

  • TV-PressPass

Ah the old “homemade sub-gun” routine. Never fails to impress. But I can’t imagine it really falls under “long term combat effective.”

    • John

I am starting to wonder why more of these homemade PDWs aren’t built with wooden stocks. A folding version would consist of cutting off the stock, then screwing on a small hinge. You want to hold it in place, use a small barrel bolt and lock it down.

  • Django

    The Ukrainian STEN!

  • Lance

Probably its 9×18 because 9×19 common cartridge in Ukraine.

  • Mr.T

This only shows how limited if any support is flowing in from Russia , in abundance of free AKs no one would bother with DIY smithing but it seems that is not the case.

    • dan

Uh huh “limited” they home built their surface to air missiles too. Metal pipe for the launcher and model rocket engines inside of pvc pipe with a 12ga shell pointing primer forward and a marble taped on top to set it off.

    …Not too shabby.. looks functional.

  • Bubba

They didn’t make this. If they claim they did they’re lying.

This article predates the conflict in Ukraine. It includes a photograph OF THE SAME MODEL GUN. According to the Article the guns were produced in the early 90s.

    • Cynic

It looks easy enough to replicate though
