SOCOM 16 Thread Adapter and Gas Lock

SOCOM 16 Gas Lock Adapter

Great Lakes Tactical (GLT) makes a SOCOM 16 adapter that allows a shooter to attach any common 5/8-24 muzzle device, such as a sound suppressor, without the need to to swap out the factory front sight or gas plug.

Although the factory gas plug works with the adapter, GLT also makes a replacement plug that matches the look of the adapter. Both products are machined from heat treated stainless steel.  The adapter is $169.99, while the plug is $49.99.

I had a chance to see the adapter and plug two weeks ago when visiting the Cleveland, OH area where GLT is based.  The parts looked well machined and matched the look of the SOCOM 16 we had on the range.

Pretty much, just in M1 form.

AH are you really a USMC vet because that is NOT an M-1 sorry it’s an M-14 type.

      • Phil Hsueh

Also known as the M1A in the civilian market and by Springfield who makes the SOCOMs.

        • claymore

Also known to MARINES as an M-14. Note the use of M-14 TYPE that Springfield weapon is a clone of an M-14 but they can’t use that nomenclature.

Any Marine knows any M-1 is a garand

Thanks for the post, RJ. I got a Socom back in my early days (before my tastes matured and I learned about such things as forged receivers and op rods, chrome-lined barrels and unified gas systems, etc). Now it’s kind of my beater rifle. I wanted to put a KX3 on it, to direct the blast down range (to avoid deafening/nauseating the person next to me with blast) but need an adapter like this first – and since then FerFrans has released their ‘QD shrouded brake’- which will allow me to still get at the gas system without having to remove the actual brake. So I’m going to pull the trigger (so to speak) and get one of these adapters (rather than an SEI) and put this ferfrans brake on it.

well, that is, if they make one for .308! (only seeing 5.56 right now dammit)

If FerFrans doesn’t make one, check out the comparable products from Kineti-Tech.

  • VeriAeq

What?, the Socom 16 is illegal in the Commie state of Maryland, guess I’ll have to save up for a legal AR-10.

    • FourString

Really? That sucks. They’re legal in California.

  • Lance

Can now you get a awesome SOPMOD stock for your SOCOM 16″ now???

  • David Sharpe

I wonder will it work for the Norinco Carbines with the 18.5 inch barrel?
