Shotgun speed loader

Tecloader - Speedloader - 2

In multigun matches loading the shotgun is the one aspect that can really take up a lot of time. There are some really skilled people out there with some great shell manipulation, but the fastest method by far is the speed loader.

This plain and simple looking device, when properly used, can reload a shotgun in the blink of an eye.

Watch Jerry Miculek at last year’s FNH 3Gun stage 3 clean up with this speedloader. It is used at the end of the video. If you blink you will miss it.

That is one very sweet looking shotgun. Is that a custom +8 on there or something? I think I counted 12 shots.

    • BA47

Is that another barrel on top of his shotgun barrel?

      • Blastattack

The barrel is the top tube with the muzzle break. The magazine is the ridiculously long silver tube.

Check out some of his other videos. There is one where he has what looks like a helical mag on the end of the mag tube. It brings capacity up to 23 rounds IIRC. I’d be interested in seeing it loaded to get an idea what that’s like.

          • Raven

There was a review of one of those rotating mag assemblies in Recoil a few months back. Basically, it majorly expands your capacity but takes forever to load (4 rounds into one tube, rotate cylinder, repeat for all 4 tubes), and as stupidly front-heavy as it looks. At some point you’re just better off to buy a Saiga and some drum mags.

What you are referring to is the Xrail.

I’m a bit surprised to see him using the Mossberg 930 with that huge muzzle brake. Many people have dismissed that brake as worthless & ineffective on a shotgun, but I imagine Miculek has his choice of any Mossberg model he wants. There’s even a model named for him.

    • sauerquint

You may be surprised and may have heard many things. But I’ll bet ya Mr. Miculek knows a thing or two, and seeing him using it should be enough for you to re-evaluate the “worthless and ineffective” statement.

      • Cymond

That’s precisely my point. He can have any shotgun he wants but he chose the model with the brake. Seeing him use that model makes me question everything I’ve read about that brake.

Either Miculek is right or the internet armchair ‘experts’ are right.
        I think I trust Miculek.

It may be that using that brake is helping avoid issues with the magazine extending so far beyond the barrel. Any performance or other benefits to the brake aside, if it redirects gases from firing that might otherwise damage the magazine that would be plenty enough reason to pick that model over another.

        • Dan

Or the sponsor said please please please Jerry use our shotgun with the ugly brake on it.

          • Cymond

So what are you suggesting? That a top-level competitive shooter is going to accept an inferior gun that could cause him to lose a match?
I really doubt Mossberg cares which of their guns he shoots.

“If you blink you miss it.”

    Typical Jerry.
    🙂

  • gunslinger

so what. how does this load? i’m guessing you load the shells “backwards” into the tube. and then you use the “slit” to wrap it around the mag tube? as you push forward, it loads the shells, and you can “rip” it off when it’s full?

  • sianmink

You can load 12 rounds in shotgun in 3-gun now?

  • SAR

What is the name of this shotgun speed loader? Anyone know?

What just happened in that video?
