Rhino Arms: 12 Gauge and .308 All-In-One

IMG_4230

I know many people see our new AR posts and think “oh great, another AR in the crowded marketplace”. I admit I am right there with you, however something about Rhino Arms intrigued me. This young company out of Missouri specializes in extremely high quality AR rifles that are convertible from 7.62×51 to 12 gauge by swapping an upper and a magazine, which to me is very cool (especially to countries where shotguns are less restricted).

The guns use Remington chokes too:

Other components are top of the line as well: nickel-boron trigger groups, lightened bolt carriers, and barrels made by a premium maker whom they would not disclose, but the rifles are guaranteed to shoot 1/2 MOA groups with off the shelf ammo. Not reloads, but off the shelf ammunition.

Rhino also offers a ton of customization. You can specify anything you want within reason, including California legal packages, and even your color scheme!

Rhino makes some very nice looking firearms and for those guys who just have to have everything tailored for them, or for the enthusiast who wants one firearm to shoot birds and medium/large game they are definitely worth a look!

I’m pleased to see “tactical” shotguns taking off

  • the_duck

    That’s a lotta keymods.

    • Every gun here has keymods, lol.

    • Paladin

      And why not?

Lots of companies have come out with modular rails over the last few years, Keymod allows for a properly standardized modular rail system. It’s lighter than a full 1913 Picatinny rail setup while still allowing a high degree of customization.

      • the_duck

Don’t get me wrong, I like keymod too and love my 15″ NSR, but my point was this particular rail just doesnt look that good to me. I think the NSR is the only keymod I like right now because there’s not an excessive number of mounting points, which gave it a distinct design aesthetic. This just looks like keymod mania gone awry.

        • Paladin

Form comes after function. Adding mounting points on 45 degree angles means I don’t have to add on an angled rail adapter if I want to mount something there. It gives me more options in how I set up my rifle, making it easier to fit the rifle to me and to the way I use it.

I don’t fault people for choosing aesthetics over function, and there may be more visually appealing rail systems on the market, but looking pretty is not my primary consideration when it comes to putting a rifle together.

          • the_duck

I’m just a weekend shooter, so it’s not really a compromise to me since this isn’t my career but I do understand the desire for 45 degree rails. I guess I would settle for 45 degree keyhole mounts at the end and not the entire span of the rail..

I also think BCM’s & I know KAC’s URX IV has the same design with the 45 deg rails, so good thing there’s options for all of us out there.

          • Paladin

Well I suppose for me there’s also an element of utilitarianism having an aesthetic all of it’s own, I kinda like how keymod rails look, especially with the right rail covers, very svelte.

          • the_duck

I’m still waiting on some great keymod rail covers, and with so many mfgs jumping on board, hopefully we’ll see something good soon.

I have the Noveske NSR covers, but what I really think would look great are the Centurion CMR Rail Covers…too bad they don’t come in Keymod.

And you can use it to hang your rifle on a nail.

  • NotoriousAPP

Why aren’t you posting MSRP’s for the recent blog entries? Are they not disclosing this info to you?

    • No, not generally. On these prices vary greatly because they are mostly custom.

      • IAN MCFARLAND

308 RIFLES RUN 3099.99 MSRP THE 12GA COMPLETE UPPER WITH THE ADDITION OF THE 308 RIFLE AS A PACKAGE IS TO BE UNDER 5k OR LESS. THE SHOTGUN COMPLETE SHOULD BE A LITTLE UNDER THE WHOLE 308 RIFLE.

ALSO YES THIS IS ALL DONE WITH A STANDARD 308 LOWER DMPS DESIGN.

HEY ALEX NICE TALKING YOU AT THE KRISS EVENT AND HAD FUN SHOWING YOU THESE NEW TOYS I SAW!

          Dude, your capslock is broken.

  • NotoriousAPP

Love the idea, finally seeing some innovation after a couple days of SHOT show. This one was a real pick me up from the downer announcement of “FN releases their AR15”

    • José Pulido

FN releases a new pistol cartridge(and bullpup subgun) that actually catches on(leading to a very usable 20 round flush magazine handgun.)
FN releases revised AR-18 pattern rifles that actually catch on in .308winchester with various military groups, and a 5.56nato version that almost catches on with Army Rangers.
FN releases fully functional, however unpopular forward ejecting bullpup.
FN releases revised Browning Jr.’s autoloading hunting rifle as precision/work rifle.

FN releases AR-15…”Omg what lazy idiots!”

  • Seth Hill

Proof that you can have a 12 gauge AR that uses regular shells. I can’t tell if that is a true AR10 pattern receiver or not though. Would be nice to know.

  • davidxerxes

Cool idea. Were there any working prototypes at Shot, or just a “show” piece? No matter how good the idea is, it wont be worth much if it doesnt run.

    • ian mcfarland

we have shot it does work perfectly no feeding issues whatsoever

      • davidxerxes

Can you please post some range videos? I think that would raise the excitement level for me and many others.

Anyone heard anything more about this thing? Wasnt it supposed to be released in July/August?
