Quick glance: New Glock 42 .380 Auto

Glock’s new G42 is on full display here at SHOT 2014. It’s a .380 Auto conceal carry gun with 6+1 capacity.

Holding it in my hand, it feels a bit different than other Glocks, notably that it’s significantly slimmer than the baby Glock 26. The 5.5lb trigger and sights are still signature Glock, and I’ve heard from a colleague that it shoots really nice with low perceived recoil making it easy to control.

Above pic: For comparison- G27 (on left) in .40 next to the G42 in .380 Auto.

If you’ve been waiting for a .380Auto conceal carry Glock, check out the new G42 at your local gun shop.

why would you say check it out at your local gun shop. the 42 is going to e the hardest gun to get a hold of ever. its going to be harder to get then the shield and xds combined. i work at a shooting rang and in the last week i get about 5 calls a day from people who want that gun.

  • MIG90

Thanks for the great pics! But, can you do a “Quick Glance” look at the new Kel-Tecs? I’m sure that’s coming up anytime now, I’m just trying to hurry it along :).

  • Michael Peters

wonder what the $$$ will be if you can find it

    • Coolguy

There are half a dozen selling on gunbroker for under $600.

  • Lance

Way too small for my hands or a lot of normal men’s hands sizes. I hope they make boots for the mags so it can fit better.

    • Hunter57dor

That defeats the purpose of a small carry gun, its supposed to be SMALL. It’s not supposed to be at all pleasant to shoot.

  • BillsFan556

.380 ACP in the size of a 9mm gun. Only an idiot would buy it.

Glock will sells tons of these guns.

    • gunslinger

yup. they need to make it the size of the P3AT or the like.

if you can get that size in 9mm, why not? i mean a 17mm case vs a 19mm case?

  • Paul O.

They’ll sell a boat load of these.

They’ll sell a boat load of these.

I don’t remember where I read it, but one blogger noted that a .380 in this size is remarkably soft shooting and as such is a good starting point for new/recoil sensitive shooters to get used to shooting a carry gun regularly that mimics the form and function of a gun they can later step up to. Micro .380s are kinda punishing. The LC380 is a good example of another pistol using this thought process.

    • Fred Johnson

Yep, LC9 and LC380 is a good comparison for the new Glock.

Now Glock just has to make their version of the LC9 and it’d be all good. 😀

    • Gregory Markle

I’d suggest the SCCY 9mm over the Glock 42. 9mm, very compact, remarkably light recoil, and you could buy two and ammo for the same price. I can’t think of any reason I’d suggest a Glock 42 to a buyer.

  • darryl

They just should have gone all out and made the grip long enough for 3 fingers. Yes I know that it would make it less concealable but there are already better choice for carry.

  • Fred Johnson

Looks like the perfect gun for my wife. Sweet.

    • Beju

I thought the same thing. But I’d still probably buy the 9mm version.

  • Michael

Can they make this gun in 9mm? Anyone who has seen it can you tell us if 9mm would fit into the grip

  • Don’t Drone Me Bro

I don’t get what’s so great about a .380 with 6+1 capacity the size of a 7+1 9mm. People will buy them, but the thing is still stupid.

    • gunslinger

this is an apples/oranges type thing. a .380 or 9mm in the same frame?
or a .380 in this frame or a smaller frame?

i mean i’d love to try one because i don’t like the big double stacks, but it seems to be the wrong choice in either category.

  • William Wallace

Now if they made this in 9mm… I would buy it right now!

  • steven ling

I’ll stick to my Kel-Tec P3AT. Same caliber, much smaller package.

  • Dragonheart

A solution looking for a need!

  • darkdestroyer

This new glock 42 is too large to hold 6+1,it could easily hold 8+1.

  • rick d

Glock knows exactly what it is doing.
