FAB Defense GL-MAG Stock

FAB Defense GL-MAG with 10-round mag

The GL-MAG buttstock by FAB Defense incorporates an underside magazine carrier well that accepts standard AR mags. The magazine is centered in the stock and doesn’t interfere with positioning the gun on the shoulder. An ambidextrous quick-release button releases the mag for a fast change and then accepts the empty. This eliminates the need for a separate magazine holder strapped on the side of the stock and keeps a spare at the ready.

With a 10-round magazine in the well, as shown in the photo, the stock is nearly the same size and configuration as a standard carbine stock. Obviously, larger magazines will protrude further from the underside of the stock. Larger mags could act as a makeshift monopod, I guess. I personally would recommend against the use of drum magazines with this stock.

Besides the mag carriers, the stock itself is otherwise fairly standard. It has a QD quick detach swivel for sling attachment and has a patented “anti-rattle” mechanism that allows it to fit both mil-spec and commercial buffer tubes. It’s available in black, olive drab green, and desert tan.

This is going to get flak simply because FAB Defense has been furiously crapping tacticool nonsense all over the market lately. Bet on it.

This doesn’t look shoddy from where I’m sitting, and for a bush pilot rifle or a truck gun it might be a good call. A Magpul 10 rounder would fit nice and flush. Of course, KelTec did it first on the SU-16B, but the friction fit was crap and people were losing magazines.

This looks like it has a positive lock without being clunky to remove. Good for FAB.

I’d love to do a PLR-16 SBR with this stock.

This has been out for a while. I’ve considered getting one, but its a little costly for my tastes.

Hey…….. how about the “Texas Star” in the background?

      That’s tacticool…

I have one and I like it. The included 10 round poly mag is very good quality. 30 round Pmag’s fit fine and don’t interfere with handling the rifle.

Quiet a contrast to the usual Magpul were use to seeing by this point. I guess if the whole mag port thing doesn’t work out it can be re tooled as a good bit of storage space.

Didn’t Mako make a stock like this already?

    • Paladin

Mako is an importer for FAB Defense. FAB Defense is the actual manufacturer, they’re based in Israel.

I already purchased mine and put it on my DPMS Oracle. It has a nice snug fit and no rattles. Mine came with a polymer 10 round mag, and it will easily accept 20 and 30 round mags as well. For me, this is a well made accessory for my AR.

I bought one, Will put that stock on all AR’s I have, tight and rattle free, the idea of a backup mag when you exhausted all others is nice.

    where’s the 30 round pic?

and aren’t there tons of discussions about weight balancing?

I have one on my AR. It’s been there for a little over a year. On a commercial tube, it is a tight fit that takes some effort to adjust. It’ll probably be better on a milspec tube.

With the 10 round magazine or a 20 rounder, it works great. I have tried a fully loaded 30-round USGI magazine and while it does work, walking around with the rifle slung is asking for it to come loose and fall. Too much weight on the mechanism – I wouldn’t use it for anything more than a 20-rounder.

Of course, if you’re not into the magazine concept, gut the 10-round mag it comes with (remove follower and spring, maybe remove some feed lips material) and presto, you have an awesome storage stock instead.

Overall, I like it. I bought it during a significant price cut sale they were running, not sure how I would feel about full price.
