TacStar Tactical Grip Coat

tacstar grip

TacStar is making a do-it-yourself kit for adding a rubber grip surface to any smooth polymer.  It is called the Tactical Grip Coat.  The kit appears to be easy to use:

  1. clean the surface
  2. apply an adhesive
  3. sprinkle on the rubber texture

The kits carry an MSRP of $19.95.  It is not clear from the site how much surface area each kit will cover.

How is this superior to the wide varety of “tennis style” rubberized grip tapes seen here http://www.trapshooters.com/cfpages/thread.cfm?threadid=321657&Messages=2 or if you want greater texture the many varietys of Skatboard style grip tapes availible that range from mildly more textured to rough sand paper texture as diccused here http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/xd-gunsmithing-maintenance/172280-anybody-use-non-skid-tape-their-grips.html . I understand that this stuff may be more durrable but once it wore down how do you remove it and then replace it? on a side note whats everyones opinion on Rat Grips tactical grip silly putty I mean it looks like a terrible idea but I have been able to find virtually zero consumer generated content on the subbject. anyway pictures from an instruction demo on their website below and here’s their stereotypically Tactical Black and Blood Red website http://ratgrips.com/

I’m kind of into this right now. The video seems to imply that the stuff only works on smooth polymer surfaces, but I bet the stuff will stick to anything.

I like it. And I may get some for the grips of my GSG. But, tactical? C’mon guys, In reality, it’s super glue and rubber shavings.

One thing I noticed is that the appearance of the final “dry’ product seems much sleeker than the appearance during application, which leads me to believe the adhesive may ‘dissolve’ the rubber or there is more to it than shown, like someone did a lot of work to make it look so nice.

At work we have this “rubberized spray paint” which I have used and it appears very similar to the final product in this video but it isn’t tactical or anything, just plain old rubber in a can.
