Less-lethal Launchers In Turkey

The Rogue Adventurer has written a post about the wide range of medium-calibre riot guns in use by Turkish police during the on-going protests. While most of the west took a ignore-them-until-they-get-bored approach to  dealing with occupy protestors, Turkey is taking the opposite approach.  They are using every less-lethal system they can get their hands on in an attempt to move the protestors, who are protesting because the government wants to turn a city park into a replica Ottoman-era military barracks (featuring a shopping mall on the lower floors … weird). One of the more interesting guns is the US-made Pepperball TAC-700, which is nothing more than a slightly modified Tippman paintball launcher (see above photo) that shoots CS, PAVA or dye filled .68 caliber paintballs.

The occupy protesters weren’t as aggressive as the Turkish protesters I think, so they didn’t have to resort use of force as much.

The Occupy protesters, being largely comprised of trust fund 1%ers and the university/education caste, were never any sort of real threat to the current ruling class. They were street theater meant to counteract the narrative of growing middle class resentment towards the ruling class as evidenced by the TEA party groups in 2010.

      • FourString

The Occupy protesters were in no way, shape, or form comprised by the “university/education caste”. What on earth are you talking about? What’s up with your false dichotomy between university educated people and the middle class? There is no such thing.

      • Anon Without A Cause

What a total distortion of reality. The Occupy movement comprised of homeless schizo anarchists, not “trust fund 1%ers”—why would 1 percenters want to threaten the ruling class—i.e. themselves? That makes literally zero sense. Whatever “TEA” party swill you’re drinking must be pret-ty stee-rong.

What the frack? Trust fund one percenters invest in Wall Street. How do people who invest in Wall Street suddenly feel compelled to protest against Wall Street? What would their motive be? To attack their own interests? -_-x Hella duuuuuumb.

This is what I was trying to add too not insult the Turks

  • Vermin.308Winchester

The occupy protesters bennifitted from the same rights they hope to cast aside in the Marxist tyrade their fore they couldn’t simply be delt with bye force in order to protect property rights as that would result in media spin destroying police departments and federal riot control units in order to preserve the justice mirage

Please, just stop talking. You don’t have any idea what’s going on in Turkey. You don’t know why they are protesting nor you know how brutal and arrogant the governement of Prime Minister Edogan is …

Also, learn to use punctuation. That way we can at least understand your tirade.

        Don’t forget spellcheck.

Partially right. The original protests were pretty standard property rights protests, against a corrupt local government.

It has been since co-opted by the groups backed by the Muslim Brotherhood, hoping to gain another “Arab Spring” movement in another nation. At least, that’s what they are declaring.

      • Lance

The protesters are actually trying to fight islamic/muslim influence in turkey.

    • Vermin.308Winchester

The American occupy protesters guys not the completely disparate Turkish protesters with unknown goals I was attempting to add to what Esh325 started with sorry should have been far more clear

It’s worth noting that many of these “non-lethals” require aiming at the ground or at the lower extremities in order to work properly – watch almost any video of the turkish police shooting and you see they’re aiming for the head. which is why so many protesters are suffering grievous cranial and facial injuries. http://occupygezipics.tumblr.com/

It is quite possible for these, at 400FPS or better, to break bones. Hit in the eyes, it will destroy the eyeball. In the right spot, possibly kill.

      • Chrome Dragon

If they’re set to more than 300 FPS, someone’s doing it wrong.

        • DAZE

We have ours set under 325. Most likely varies on agency. Either way, PepperBall should be aimed at lower extremities or area saturation.
