Izhmash To Manufacture Military & Consumer Ammunition

Famed Russian gun maker Izhmash, the original AK-47 manufacturer and the manufacturer of the newer AK-12, Saiga 12 and AK-108 firearms,  is branching out into ammunition. They have gotten a license from the Russian government to start producing civilian ammunition and military ammunition up to 30mm in caliber. They say that the first ammunition they will be manufacturing is high-end civilian and sniper cartridges.

With Izhmash’s new consumer focus, I expect it won’t be to long until Izhmash branded ammunition shows up on gun shop shelves worldwide. With the shortage of ammunition right now, the extra supply will be welcome.

Many thanks to Peter for the tip.

  • Damn Izhmash is stepping their game up.

    • -V-

Well, its either that, or board up their windows. We already get 70%+ of all their production over here, might as well add some ammo in the mix to sweeten the deal.

      • True enough. Now if they’d just open a plant over here too…

      • Or just set up a plant in the U.S called “Izhmash U.S.A” which makes final touches to rifles before selling them to make them 922r compliant. Because I really want this.

  • Doom

I dont want high end civilian stuff, cheap steel 5.45 and 7.62 is all I care about, maybe a nice cheap brass 9mm option too. already plenty of “high end” ammo manufacturers in the US who are willing to trade you an arm and a leg for 20 rounds of ammo…

    • FourString

Can I haz *cheap* high-end civilian stuff tho? :D’

    • Steve (TFB Editor)

I am not exactly sure what high end means. It might mean brass cased ammo (rather than the standard Russian steel)

    • n0truscotsman

      cheap steel would be nice

  • n0truscotsman

Awesome! we (americans) would use more ammunition! this is as delightful as hearing about the Australian ammo.

maybe we can finally see common 7N1 and 7N14 ammunition for the 7.62x54R

    IzhAmmo to go with TulAmmo?

  • Sounds great; as long as it’s not as dirty as Wolf I’ll buy it.
Now we just need Barnaul to start shipping 6.5 Grendel…

  • Lance

As long as it means cheap 5.45x39mm and 7.62x39mm ammo id be happy. And the company still make AK-74Ms too Steve.
