Purse Holster from DeSantis

Desantis Purse

DeSantis announced a new purse holster called the “Hide and Chic.”  The purse is designed to conceal a variety of handguns ranging in size from the Ruger LCP to the Glock 17.

The Hide and Chic is made of soft garment leather and is designed to “…be both practical and fashionable.”  The purse is not just a holster as it offers standard purse storage for common items such as keys and a cell phone.  According to DeSantis, the firearm can be accessible from either end of the purse.

MSRP is $229.99.  The holster insert carries a suggested retail of $15.99.

Being a guy, I probably don’t really have the proper perspective on this, I guess, but isn’t this a good way to ensure that the scumbag who just snatched your purse is now also armed and even more dangerous?

I have a few female friends who lawfully carry concealed, and they all advise against carrying in a purse or bag especially for that reason.

In the NRA’s so-called “Refuse to be a Victim” class (which my wife taught for a short while) they talk about risk/crime reduction strategies. One of which is to ONLY wear the purse over one shoulder so that when it’s snatched the thief doesn’t injure you or fight you for it.

My wife felt, and I agree with her, that this is BS. You wear it cross body, and IF some dirtbag grabs the purse and tries to run you let him hold on to the purse while you batter him about the head and scratch the intercourse out of him.

I also feel that by wearing the purse “cross body” you reduce the chance of a purse snatching as thieves who snatch purses aren’t MIT graduates (they steal by starting Green Energy companies), but they aren’t stupid. They know that they have to grab and go. By making it harder to steal YOUR purse you make them move on to a softer target.

The thing is that *most* women’s clothing is incompatible with a reasonable accessible concealed carry, but it’s almost always acceptable for them to have a purse. If the choice is between going unarmed and purse carry then this is a good option.
