CMMG has been producing quality AR platforms for 11 years now. Their latest production is the Mk3 CBR (Carbine Battle Rifle). This is a semi-auto .308 caliber rifle on an AR-10 style platform. CMMG has partnered with several industry leaders to put together several nice features that should make the semi-auto .308 caliber shooters quite pleased. Those partners include Gieselle, Magpul and Surefire.
One of the first things shooters are likely to notice is the CMMG Revo KeyMod (RKM) hand guard. Admittedly taking from other’s designs, CMMG has manufactured their own key mod hand guard and rail system. The RKM on the CBR happens to be a full length 15” hand guard with a full length Picatinny top rail. There is also a smaller Picatinny rail (5 slots) on the bottom front of the guard. Despite the full length hand guard the weight of the CBR was not overwhelming; more than an AR-15, but manageable.
I got to talk with Adam Chmielik at the CMMG booth and he assured me that over a year of testing has shown that the key mod style rail system has held up very well even with heavy shooting and larger calibers. There are several AR component manufacturers that are producing key mod hand guards so it would appear that it works and this is more than just a passing trend.
