Turning a shovel into a AK

01-tm-tfb

Inspired by the infamous shovel-AK photo, a member of the Northeastshooters forum converted a $2 shovel into an AK rifle!

The barrel is made from a $30 AK barrel blank. Boris did not bother machining it down to the standard AK profile, instead he just cut it down to 16.25″ in length and drilled a hole for the gas block (which he then welded on). The end result is a rifle which would look the part in any post-apocalyptic movie. To quote the Old Testament …

Cut your ploughshares into swords, and your spades into spears. Let the weak say: I am strong. Joel 3:10 (Douay-Rheims Bible)

    Slow news day huh?

    • Noodles

Not nearly as dumb as if I’d feel if i had made a post where 33% of the words used were an adjective for “stupid”.

    looks like something outta borderlands

      Definitely a Bandit gun then… Well, a Vladof with a more comfortable-looking Bandit stock…
For those of you not in the know:
Vladof-They make Russian-styled weapons, all their weapons (Except the rocket launcher) are based on the AK. Like actual Russia!

    Stoli… a fitting choice.

  • -V-

He actually bent the shovel head into the receiver. Rather neat!

  • bbmg

As bent as the Soviet sickle, and as hard as the hammer that crosses it – brilliant!

    Now THAT is an AKM!

  • Randel Axe

Cool! now you can shot people and dig there graves!

  • Lemming

You should have posted the picture of the group he achieved at 50 yards. It was actually rather impressive.

    • Komrad

It’s not too surprising. He essentially has a forged receiver, not a stamped one, and a heavy barrel.

I really wish I had the skills to do something so cool.

      • JonMac

The barrel is the main reason. I wouldn’t say the (hand) forged receiver offers much benefit – the end result is still a flat perforated sheet that’s then folded to create the lower.

  • Sardaukar

The only thing lacking is a spade bayonet.

  • Denny

Looks like guns (as weapons in more generic terms) made whole loop and returned to their origins : – ) ) Can it be used back as a spade?

i’ve seen plenty of people dig dirt with bullets.

  • Marc

Will Bloomberg call for SHOVEL CONTROL???

  • Lolinski

The craftmanship sure beats those Century WASRs.

  • Ray

Thus proving once again that the gun control meme is simply ridiculous and those that want to arm themselves will do so, one way or another.

  • Flounder

I love it!!! especially the heavy barrel!

Oh and FREAKIN BEAUTIFUL!!! In a i’m rolling on the floor laughing with joy kind of way.

  • Lance

Watch him next when he uses soda cans to make a AR-15!!. LOL

    • Matt

      Soda cans or aluminum foil?

  • Mike Knox

Vodka, practically an essential part in AK innovation, If you’re Russian..

  • zack991

    SO Sweet.

  • gunslinger

wait, did he use every part of the shovel to make the gun? it sounded like he got a blank of the receiver, and only used the handle as a stock.

someone correct me if i’m wrong.
