Canik55 TP9 Pistol

kanik_55_tp_9_2-tm-tfb

The TP9 is a relatively new pistol from Turkish company Canik55. This year Century Arms will be importing it into the USA.

It has a distinct resemblance to the Walther P99. I am not sure if this resemblance is just superficial or if it is also a clone internally.

Even the accessories and the carrying case look like the accessories that come with walthers.

I’m usually a fan of Turkish firearms (terrific value), but that looks like a Walther went slumming and had unprotected sex with a Hi-Point.

  • Partizan1942

Looks like a solid service pistol. I would like to know more about the operation of the gun and the manufacturing quality of the weapon.

  • Darkness

Kinda looks like the PPQ also

  • Chase

That looks like a Blackhawk Serpa holster. Sweet!

And yet another awesome example of how the firearms market is still producing innovative and unique products /sarcasm

No surprise here, more regurgitated/recycled stuff.

  • Samopal

Looks like the P99s unique decocker on the slide there. Between that and the overall aesthetics I’m leaning towards “clone”.

  • Lance

Im sure they copied the P99 they also I think make copies of the Glock and Beretta as well hope we can turn back to the day of cheap Asian made knock offs of classic pistols.

    • W

I know France and Egypt make copies of the Beretta 92. Im sure a lot more do :)

    • Sean

The Turkish Beretta 92 copy sold by ATI(I think) is pretty good. At least as good as the American made ones. I would imagine this p99 clone would be decent as well.

  • Sian

Might be a good alternative if you don’t like the Walther’s lever-style mag release.

  • W

It looks like a P99 with the slide of a HK USP. Im curious to see what the internals look like. If im not mistaken, Turkey also acquired a license to produce their own HK 416 copies.

“Meh” at the dull Walther P99 wannabe..

  • Esh325

It’s a DA/SA right? I wonder why more there aren’t more striker fired pistols that DA/SA.

  • Papa smurf

    That’s a fake Serpa holster.

  • Gerald

The Walther P99as is like the “Velvet Undergound Album” of pistols. Not many people actually bought one, but everyone who did went out and produced a copy of it. The Magnum Research MR-9, the Smith and Wesson SW99 and this Canik55 TP9 are direct clones. The Walther P99 was the first striker-fired DA/SA pistol, and also the first to incorporate adjustible backstraps, features that have been copied into many other latter designs, like the XDm and 4th generation Glocks.

I would seriously consider the Walther P99 to be the most underrated 9mm pistol of all time. Not the absolute best pistol ever, but easily the most frequently overlooked. This, largely due to the fact that Walther invests ABSOLUTELY NOTHING into advertisement beyond their website.

Actually Gerald the SW99 is not a “clone”. It was a model produced by Walther and S&W jointly when they were in business relationship together. Now Walther has set up Walther USA in Arkansas. And you’re correct the 99 was severely underrated by everyone involved in shooting from gun snobs, so-called experts, law enforcement, and everybody in between! Great firearm. This one should be as well. The Turks have always made outstanding firearms. It kind of reminds me of the H&K P30.

I just tool my tp9 to the range and put the first 100 rounds in it. No problems at all. Holster is nice and the two mags are very good. Very happy with this $360 gun and the trigger is as good as my G 23. I will say the sights are not good but I can fix them with sight paint.

This is a fine shooting pistol!!! I’m looking for extra mags for this pistol, anyone have an idea where i might be able to ourchase more magazines????

    • lj06716

According to their add at Centerfire Systems, the two mags that come with it are made by Mec-Gar. They are one of the best after market magazines out there. Look at the ones that came with it and get the number off of it and contact Mec-Gar. Here is their contact info:

Great gun, performance has been flawless, sucks up bullets and spits em out super accurately. Love mine

  • mike d

I like it so much that I bought another one so that’s makes two! I actually like it better than my M&P 9mm and it’s trigger rivals my glock. I don’t expect this gun to stay in the $300 range for long. Get one while you can.
