Can you identify this gun?

The Firearm Blog friend and collaborator Andrew has just gotten back from his adventures in Tunisia and Lybia. You can read all about his adventures at Vuurwapen Blog. When in Tunisia he photographed a policeman's sidearm ...

Neither Andrew nor I can figure out what gun it is. We think it may be a flare gun. Can anybody identify it?

Note how the holster is only secured with a single belt loop. Professionals to the core!

World’s Most Expensive Plinking Targets?

My friends at AccurateShooter.com reported on the fascinating story of a 2,500 year old solid gold cup, thought to be made of brass, that was once used as a air rifle plinking target! Accurate Shooter reports ...

John Weber, a 70-year-old from England, was given a metal mug by his grandfather in 1945. Though his grandfather had a “good eye” for antiques, John never thought the metal mug was worth much. He played with it as a child, and even used it as a target for his air rifle. The mug, assumed to be brass, has languished in a shoe box under Weber’s bed for decades.

The cup sold for about $250,000 USD!

I did some googling and discovered that Andy Warhol's portrait of Mao sold earlier this year for $302,500! The painting 'features' two bullet holes made by actor Dennis Hopper.

Do you know of any other priceless items that were once used for plinking?

Predator Tactical Night Shrike 1911 Pistol

Predator Tactical's Night Shrike is a compact, lightweight and high-end custom 1911 pistol.

It features a 4" ultra-match barrel, aluminum short rail frame, tactical rail, adjustable or fixed rear sights, front night sight, front & rear serrations and high grip beavertail. Predator Tactical uses Wilson Combat's Bullet Proof line of 1911 parts. The gun is zeroed at the factory and must pass a 100 round test firing with 100% reliability before it is shipped

Included with the gun is one complete refinishing, an one hour of training in Arizona by the Predator team and lifetime of servicing on all parts except the frame (one year service policy on the frame).

So how much will all of this set you back? It starts at $3,950!

The Ruger 1911 Photo Leaked!!!

The Ruger SR1911 has been officially announced!

A photo of Ruger's upcoming 1911 has been leaked! Eagle-eyed reader Gros Ventre George spotted it on page 119 of Guns & Ammo's special edition magazine Combat Arms. It appears in an advertisement for Shooting Times magazine. The advertisement shows the cover of the upcoming June issue of Shooting Times with a photo of the Ruger 1911 and the title "Ruger's 1911 1,500 Rounds Fired".

ruger 1911tfb tfb The Ruger 1911 Photo Leaked!!! photo

The frame and slide are (obviously) stainless. The slide has a Ruger logo. It has black polymer grips with a ruger logo, beaver tail grip with 'memory bump', skeletonized hammer and trigger, fiber optic sights. What other features have I missed?

It looks comparable to the Remington 1911 R1 Enhanced which has an MSRP of $940. I expect the Ruger 1911 to retail for about the same.

Ruger is not going to be happy about this leak. The company routinely embargoes press releases to prevent leaks. Now a photo of the 1911 is probably in just about every Barnes & Noble store throughout the country!

Word on the street is that the pistol will be officially announced next week.

[ Many thanks to Gros Ventre George for scanning the ad and emailing it to me. ]

Fabarm Martial Ultra Short 14″ Shotgun

Paolo spotted the FABARM Martial Ultra Short 14" SBS (short barreled shotgun) at the EXA 2011 gun expo in Italy. The pump-action shotgun fits five 3" 12 gauge rounds into its magazine that is just slightly shorter than the 14" barrel.

The heat shield is a nice touch.

[ Many thanks to Paolo for emailing me the photo. ]

Rock Island Armory MIG 22

Rock Island Armory will be importing the Armscor's new semi-automatic .22 LR chambered MIG 22 rifle. Our team saw the rifle on display at IWA '11 last month.

The AR-15 style rifle has a one-piece receiver machined from aluminum billet, a 18" free-floating barrel and uses a 15-round magazine. A M16A2/A3-style stock and a skeleton style stock will be offered.

The rifle pictured in the photos is the standard model. A target model with a heavy profile barrel will also be available.

It will be available in blue, white or black. Many readers are sure to disagree with me, but I find the blue stock very attractive!

Rock Island Armory has not yet announced pricing for the USA.
