SG553-US at IWA

While at IWA, I had a chance to look at some Swiss Arms rifles. They were all interesting, but the SG553 which takes AR mags definitely caught my eye. Of course, the aluminum receiver stood out also. Older Sig 55X pattern weapons had steel receivers, but they’ve tested these aluminum prototypes to 18000 rounds of full auto – and that was the 7.62×51 version.

Other different features include a 4 position adjustable gas system and an ambi mag release. It’s not something that’ll be available to civilians in the US any time soon, but that doesn’t make it any less cool.

A canadian manufacturer has recently begun to make Sig lowers that accept Ar mags and AR buttstock assemblies for those who are interested in the lowers. They are also at the trade show right now. For anyone who is there, check out North Eastern Arms. They have a site as well.

Please tell me that we will be getting these in the US!

Also, hearing that the 9″ barrel is for the Swiss Civilian market makes me pissed about our stupid and costly NFA regulations…

Actually the fact that it wont be available to civilians in the US does make it less cool. I realize that manufacturers have to focus on their military customers as well as civilian sales, but I feel they should make an effort to offer as much as they can to civilians. At least offer a pistol version.

The previously mentioned AR lower made by North Eastern Arms is available in the US. They ship direct, and I have Two myself. An excellent piece of kit.
