Of all the weird guns at SHOT Show, none left me more puzzled than Mossberg's new range of Blackwater branded shotguns.
It puzzles me because the Blackwater name has long since ceased to exist. In 2009, amidst multiple legal battles, the company renamed themselves as Xe Services. The name Blackwater is now an archaism harking back to the golden age of security contractors.
The name must still move guns off shelves or Mossberg would not be using it. I am not one of Backwater's detractors, but still I cannot figure out why Mossberg would want to associate themselves with such a publicly tainted brand name - so tainted that it has been long since abandoned by Blackwater itself.

Mossberg has not released pricing for the Blackwater shotguns.
Wally has written a very interesting guest post at MArooned blog about the 57mm M18A1 recoilless rifle.
Note the interesting cartridge design. The cartridge is intentionally covered with holes to vent gas into the gun.
The Medieval period called and they want this kid back ...
Compared to his kid I think I must have grown up during the stone age.

Pye42 photographed the guns of movie-supplier Long Mountain Outfitters. They have an AMAZING collection of weaponry.

Later this year DoubleStar will be introducing a .308/7.62mm NATO chambered AR-style rifle to the market. The below photos are of a prototype. The prototype is so new that it was not available to DobleStar's SHOT Show staff when they were setting up the booth. It arrived during the SHOT Show week. The booth staff were not able to tell me how much it will cost or when it will go on sale.
It features DoubleStar's new AR-10-style lower with a patterned magwell grip. I liked the grip, and it looks badass, but I think gloves would be mandatory if doing a lot of shooting.
The designer of the rifle. Unfortunately I can't find where I wrote down his name.
This is the Trijicon 6x machine gun scope used by the British Army on their AR-10 rifles.
Sun Devil Manufacturing has two new billet-CNC'ed lowers for 2011. The one is for DPMS-compatible (.308) rifles and the other for standard AR-15 rifles. They both feature integral trigger guards.
Sun Devil lowers. I love the tan-colored lowers without the forward assist.
I do not have pricing information.
Unfortunately I am not. If you are, please email me photos or tips on new firearms or firearm-related products. My email address is here. Thanks.
Trijicon unveiled their first bow sight at SHOT Show. It features Trijicon's dual illumination system that is used on all their scopes. Fiber-optics are used to capture daylight for illumination and when there is not enough natural light a tritium lamp is used.
Honestly, I basically know nothing about archery or bow hunting so I cannot comment on the technical aspects of the sight. Trijicon's litreture says that it is easily adjustable for range and for bow/arrow combinations. It also states that the AccuPin is Pope & Young legal.
Talo and Colt have teamed up to produce a limited edition of the SAA Colt P1750 chambered in .

Stag Arms have updated their Model 3 AR-15 rifle. The rifle features the Diamondhead V-RS (Versa-Rail System) which replaces the original thermomolded handguard.
