Long Range (200+ yard) slug

The below video shows a Benelli Super 90 (modified with standard hunting stock) loaded with 1 oz. Winchester foster-style slugs hitting the target at 230 yards.

I am sure Y-Man is impressed! I was shooting slugs at 50 yards yesterday and feeling good about just hitting the target icon wink Long Range (200+ yard) slug photo

Free SHOT Gear disclosure

Like I did last year, I am disclosing the free stuff that I was given at SHOT. As far as I know, none of these were personal gifts, but promotional material handed out to many other members of the media or to SHOT attendees. I did not take all the free gear home with me as I ran out of space in my bag (SHOT brochures weigh a lot!).

In the above photo: A backpack from, and branded by, FILR (the most expensive item I received), underneath the backpack is a shooting vest from the Polish booth (along with a business card with built in usb drive, some pens and other small widgets), pens from Glock,a camo messenger bag from Media Day organizers, a DVD about guns that I was given by some guy in the press room.

In the above photo: the same messenger bag (I forgot that I had photographed it before), Winchester shooting glasses (for use at Media Day), trijicon lens cleaning cloths, little dragon pin (DoubleStar) and ear plugs.

Hats from various companies and a t-shirt from Springfield. Not pictured is the t-shirt I got from Desert Tactical Arms and from the Polish booth.

So there you have it. If you really believe that my opinion would be influenced by a backpack or a pen, then there is probably nothing I can do to convince you otherwise. Any gun company can get my attention by simply engaging with me in person or via. email. I don't need, require or am influenced by free stuff.

AAC Super-Cool Suppressed Rifle

Yes, I did just use the word "Super-Cool" in a blog post title. I have run out of adjectives to describe this rifle. Let me just say that I could hardly put this gun down. I seriously contemplated grabbing it and doing a runner icon wink AAC Super Cool Suppressed Rifle photo

Rachel with the rifle.

The rifle is a Remington 700 chambered in .300 AAC BLK. It features the fancy new Remington folding RACS stock (Remington Arms Chassis System) and an integrally suppressed barrel. It oozes cool.

The optic is sport is very nifty. It has a custom Leupold scope that features a custom front focal recticle ballistically matched to the subsonic .330 AAC BLK and the supersonic .300 AAC BLK.

It is a concept gun. If it was produced in this configuration it would be very expensive. The components alone would add up to a lot of dollars.

I just cannot express in words how cool this rifle was. It was AMAZING.

The latest in Tactical Sweater Vests (and M249s)

AAC's Mike Mers took a break from his busy schedule to show off the latest in Tactical Sweater Vests. According to Mike, a man with impeccable taste, this season the ultimate accessory for any green sweater vest wearer is an M249 chambered in .300 AAC BLK and suppressed. I agree.

Sako 90th Anniversary Model

The Finnish rifle manufacturer Sako (now owned by Beretta) was started in 1921 and turns 90 years old this year. The 90th anniversary gun is a beautiful Sako Model 85 chambered in .450 Rigby.

The only ice sculpture I saw at SHOT.

Photos of Ruger LC9

The Ruger LC9 did not strike me as particularly exciting. I am sure it works, but it does not offer anything not already on the market.

Photos of the Mossberg Chainsaw

The Mossberg Chainsaw may look gimmicky, and shooting from the hip is not a good way to utilize your pump-action, but it works surprisingly well.

ADCOR Defense BEAR

The ADCOR Defense BEAR (Brown Enhanced Automatic Rifle) is a very nifty new piston-operated AR-15 carbine. The piston is permanently attached to the bolt carrier (think AK-47) and it travels through a machined boss in the upper receiver, which prevents the problem of carrier tilt. The BEAR includes both the standard AR-15 rear charging handle and a forward, folding and non-reciprocating charging handle.

The 14.5" barreled model weighs 6.85 lbs and the 20" model weighs 7.80 lbs. Barrel lengths available will be 10.5, 14.5, 16.1, 18 and 20"

The BEAR will go on sale later this year.

ATI MP 40 (.22LR)

Along with the Stg.44, ATI plan on importing a clone of the famous German MP 40 Maschinenpistole chambered in .22 LR. It is a very nifty gun.

One problem with importing a replica of the MP 40 is that it has a very long tubular receiver and a short barrel. The gun pictured in the photos is actually classified as a short barreled rifle (SBR) but is quite a long weapon. ATI has two options to address this, either they shorten the receiver and increase barrel length or permanently attach a faux suppressor. They are thinking that the latter option is more likely and plan on building authentic faux replica's of German WWII suppressors.

Don't expect to see this gun before 2012.
