IOF’s new sniper rifle. The Enfield returns.

The above photo is of a new rifle from Indian Ordnance Factories. Enfield aficionados will recognize it as the Ishapore Enfield Rifle 2A1 with a modern sniper stock, scope and bipod.

The Ishapore Rifle 2A1 is based on the Lee-Enfield SMLE Mk. III and is chambered in 7.62x51mm.

I can just imagine how cool a modern No1 Mk4 would look. Black Hogue stock with stainless steel action and barrel and a rail for modern optics. Release it in .303, .308, .223, 5.45, 7.62×39, whatever’s possible!!

I have a thing for the Enfields, and if I ever get a service rifle the Ishapore SMLE is my top choice.

@Stefan F I’d buy one. As for the the Enfield I would love to have L42A1 (or clone). If these are of new manufacture there could be an export market.

The Enfield action is extremely sweet. Those that ask why, I ask why not. For its purpose, with a good quality barrel, this will do just fine.

Question is it any good? Is it new production or actually an old Enfield ‘sporterized’ of sorts?

Nice to see the Ishi is getting some overdue love and I’m a proud mommy of one myself. I’ve always been a fan of the Enfield action ever since trying one out many years ago at a WW2 re-enactment. I just wish someone would start putting out modern reproductions that we can buy in different calibers like 7.62×39 or even 5.56×45 (yes I’m looking at you AIA who managed to get their rifles banned from import due to cheaping out on the stocks) rather than being relegated to red-head stepchild status. -_-

Screw Mauser actions it’s Enfield or go home for this girly! ^_^

I can’t imagine anyone other than a bunch of political appointees coming out with this kind of junk. The side mounted scope looks like something copied from a 1930s Griffin and Howe sporter and the stock like something that came from a shop that turns out cheap molded toys sold in dollar stores.
