The below gun is a pretty cool looking modern recreation of an axe gun. The short gun barrel and short axe shaft make both weapons a lot less effective than they could be.
I suspect that the original axe guns were made more for decoration than for war. The armory at Castle Eltz in Germany has a couple of axe guns (scroll down) on display.

Congrats to Stephen Hunter on his seventh book in the Bob Lee Swagger series, Dead Zero , that is due to be released on December 28 1. Stephen has created a video promoting the book ...
Only a real man does not edit out missed targets
I was videoed last weekend when out shooting with friends and my misses will never end up online!
Stephen has been a reader of the blog for a long time.
Last month Bushmaster was awarded a patent (#7810271) for an AR-15 (or AR-10) compatible modular rifle system. The patent proposes using a mag well that can be removed from the lower receiver. The mag well could be any conceivable length in order to accommodate special upper receivers. In theory, cartridges as big as the a .338 Lapua could be used with this system.
Bushmaster Patent #7810271
While this patent is interesting, what makes it even more interesting is that back in 2006 Colt Defense was awarded a patent for a similar concept.
Colt Defense Patent #7131228
Solider System dug up the Colt patent when we were all trying to work out what Colt's upcoming modular rifle would look like. The Colt Modular Carbine CM901 has since been unveiled and we know that it does not make use of a detachable magwell.
It will be interesting to see if Bushmaster run with this concept.
Cool Tools is a very interesting blog for gadget lovers that I have been reading for years. They have posted a review of the Dillon Precision RL-550B Progressive Reloading Press ...
They tell me that a guy can reload 500 rounds an hour with this machine. I have only done about 350 per hour but never broke out into a sweat! The fascinating thing about this reloading press is that once you get started, you drop a loaded round with every pull of the handle. Not 5 pulls and two die changes for every round as before.

Lots more information about this unique gun at Bob's Gun Counter.

LaRue Tactical is selling an upgrade kit for the Ruger 10/22 that includes a LT178 Rail, LT719 QD Ultra-Low Mount and LaRue Cheek Pad. The kit sells for $295.
I have no doubt that these rings and mount are of the best quality, but you must admit that it is quite amusing to see rings and a mount selling for more than the rifle they will be mounted on! You can get a Ruger 10/22 just $235.
