American Rifleman’s 10 Coolest Guns
American Rifleman has selected their 10 Coolest Movie Guns.
I think their selection is pretty good. I would personally have included the Desert Eagle Point Five Oh from Snatch. The Desert Eagle scene from Snatch always gives me a good laugh (Note: NSFW, may contain spoilers) ...

Cool list. I will be arguing the pros and cons over a couple of cold ones this weekend.
Like all lists, there are some personal preferences missing, but overall very well picked out.
I actually prefer Two Smoking Barrels over Snatch. The way the multiple plots cross it other is even more hilarious and at the same time feels very natural.
Well, guess what has just made it to to top of my Netflix list like a bullet! That scene alone makes it worth taking a chance on the rest of ‘Snatch’!
BTW, thanks for all your gun world updates. I have been a silent but regular reader up till today.
Rebel, you won’t be disappointed! The prequal is also great, although not as good (you don’t need to watch it before snatch, completely different stories):

So this guy is shooting a .50 cal. handgun one-handed and the thing barely jumps when he fires it? Riiiight….
Here are the ones (some fictional) that made a lasting impression on myself growing up I thought were super cool.
- Auto-9 – Robocop
- Barrett M82 – Bill Paxton shot bad guys through walls using a thermal scope in Navy SEALs and it was the “Cobra Assault Cannon,” in Robocop.
- Beretta 92F – Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, etc
- Franchi SPAS12 – The Terminator, Jurassic Park, etc
- M134 Minigun – Predator and T2
- M16A1 w/M203 – Predator
- M41A Pulse Rifle – Aliens
- M56 Smart gun – Aliens
- M60 – Rambo, Commando
- MP5SD – Navy SEALs
- S&W M29 – Dirty Harry
- Rail gun – Eraser
The thing that struck me about that movie clip is there seems to be no recoil from the Desert Eagle. Of course the gun is loaded with blanks, but I would expect some faked recoil motion to make it more realistic.
SpudGun nails some great ones that CERTAINLY are better than the top ten list. The AUG? How could they MISS that one. I think of cool movie guns as something that features somewhat prominently into the story some how. I question the FN in Heat for example. Yeah, it’s cool but it gets almost NO screen time and isn’t “featured” per-se. It’s just another gun in the shootout.
I’m terrible with models but leme see what I can do…
Kentucky Long Rifle used by Hawkeye – Last of the Mohicans
Sharps Rifle – Quigly Down Under
Thompson SMG from Public Enemies
Railgun from Eraser (not real of course but COOL)
Willakers! No 1911?! As you know, I’m not the biggest 1911 fan but even I lusted after the long slide .45 with laser sighting (AMT Hardballer) from the first Terminator.
Other movie guns that I became infactuated with growing up –
Steyr AUG from Die Hard
Beretta 92 from Lethal Weapon
SPAS 12 from The Hitcher
.475 Wildey from The Hard Way
Valmet M78 from Commando
CheyTac M-200 from Shooter
And really, the list goes on and on – to the point where I bore everyone who watches a movie with me as I point out the make, model and caliber of every gun that comes on screen.
Your right this is an awesome scene.
It’s a good list (even though top tens are universally terrible,) but there are so many forgotten. Arnie’s 1887 from Terminator 2, Chow Yun Fat’s dual Berettas from John Woo movies, Arnold’s rocket launcher from Commando, Jackson’s Springfield from Saving Private Ryan, and that’s just the factual stuff. Nobody can deny the coolness of Blade’s custom machine pistol or the imperial E-11 blaster rifle.
Lol, I love snatch. That was a great scene. Vinny Jones is a pretty big guy, I don’t think their guns were helping their chances at robbing him any more though.
