A friend of mine had a well-established mountain-top shooting spot about 30 minutes from his home, up some crazy logging roads. This is the sort of spot I grew up shooting at, as well.

Anyway, one day it was snowing fairly heavily. He had left a Glock 17 on the hood of his truck and it ended up getting covered in snow. When he packed up he missed it (he owns a lot of guns and will take 5-6 pistols on an outing sometimes).

He figured out that it had slid off the truck at some point in the drive, so he patrolled for it over several weekends in the early spring, eventually finding it. It was a bit crusty, so he soaked it in transmission fluid, then scrubbed it down and degreased it, and it was back up and running.

I locked all my stuff up for a trip but forgot my Surefire M6 so I stuffed it in my paper shredder. Completely forgot about it, emptied that can myself and didn’t see it. It was several weeks later that I recognized my accidental discharge (or was it negligent?) and have since not used that receptacle for any thing but paper.
