Kel-Tec PMR 30 SMG Prototype
I am literally drooling all over my keyboard ...
Now they need to make a version with 16" barrel and start selling it!
More photos at SNAFU! blog.
UPDATE: Robert says ...
The PMR-30 SMG is a full-auto only developmental prototype. It is not available for purchase, and was specifically created to prove that 30 rounds of rimmed 22 WMR can feed 100% reliably.

how do i get one
Im wondering what its ROF is, and how fast it would overheat?
@ 4Cammer I only noticed that after I read your comment. and yes that guy needs to pull his pants up and go buy some better shoes
Interesting videos. I guess they have some development left to do until 100% reliability
.
Recoil looks to be very limited. There is also not much muzzle flash, although it’s a rifle round.
@Carl
I’d say that most of us agree with you about the 2nd amendment Carl. This is happily not a political blog, but I would like to say that I think that the numbers of people who agree with you are increasing. If we work together, I believe that we can win respect for our rights and the rights of others. There are advocacy groups in most regions and countries working to gain respect for peoples’ rights to arm themselves, and if you are motivated you can help!
This reminds me very much of the H&K VP70, but I can tell that it is mechanically different. Both are beautifully ugly. Hopefully they will be able to work out the reliability issues and turn this into a fantastic range toy.
Carl,
You wish for video is my command. Enjoy!

Guys, thanks for posting the vids.
Somone wanted video? I found this a few days before it posted on TFB. I was looking at the Kel-Tec sight, hoping for some new info on the PMR-30 (considering buying one as soon as they hit the market) and I was reading the company’s Q1 news: http://www.youtube.com/user/KelTecWeapons
And yeah, I know it isn’t for sale, but I’d need to buy a second PMR-30 if they offered the shoulder stock as an accessory. (one to own/shoot/carry as a pistol, and another to register as a SBR) I know some people have filed a Form 1 and added a SU-16 buttstock to the PLR.
Thx for the legal info guys. It seems to me these laws should be challenged in court. I don’t see how making the ownership of FA guns this difficult could comply with the second amendment. Particularly if they aren’t any more dangerous in practice.
Matt — that’s before the ammo companies come out with tacticool self-defense ammo for the sure-to-be-popular PMR-30. If I close my eyes I can see it on the shelf now, Remington Golden Saber .22 WMR BJHP 40gn 50 pack: $39.99.
While this thing seems neither aesthetically pleasing nor practical (atleast in its “intended” role as a PDW. I have no doubt it’s an absolute blast to shoot), I really have to laud Kel-Tec for consistently coming up with interesting designs off the beaten path of AR’s and 1911s (not that there’s anything wrong with those either) that you’d normally only expect from tiny German companies staffed by the mystical obsessive-compulsive leprechauns of the Schwarzwald.
And very much unlike Mystical Leprechaun GmbH, they actually offer these guns at highly affordable prices.
We need video. I would like to try it in F/A without the stock as well. If a Glock can be controlled enough for close ranges, this should be a breeze.
Carl – No new FA guns for us lowly subjects. Only military and police agencies, or the manufacturer. or a special class of dealer.
Rusty – Why cant the NFA be repealed? Think about it. “Bill 8xx will make machineguns legal to own by the general public, and make our streets into warzones. Tell Senator Whathisface to vote no!”
No politician will vote for it, and how many investment guns loose their value almost overnight? Too many hands working against liberty here.
@Carl
In the USA it is completely legal, but not EASY or INEXPENSIVE to own a select fire weapon.
To make a long story very short, in 1934 registration was required for fully-automatic weapons and a ban on the registration of any NEW civilian automatic weapons in 1986.
What this means from a practical perspective is that although most anyone that can legally own a handgun in the USA can register for a automatic weapon, there are only a very limited number of such firearms. The price of automatic weapons goes up every year.
However, if you can afford to spend several thousand USD, you too can register a legal weapon. There are some problems (like surrendering some of your freedoms to the BATF) but in general it is simply a long, boring process.
I could go on about how automatic weapons are not realistically more dangerous than unregulated firearms (like shotguns) or how the only 2 homicides committed with legal machine guns were committed by law enforcement (who may purchase new automatic weapons without restriction.) I could also go on about how it is relatively easy to illegally modify many different types of weapons to fire automatically and that criminals can purchase automatic weapons on the black market.
I would personally love an MP5 as a range toy, but it is very much out of my price range.
On second thought… it would be even more cool in .17 HMR. Not quite the muzzle energy, but better penetration and accuracy.
My big problem with .22mag is that it is ALMOST the same price per round as bargain 9mm. Hard to pull the trigger on this pistol when I could shoot and train with 9mm at the same pricepoint.
“It is not available for purchase….”
Oh well. It would still be cool as a semi-auto carbine.
That guy does need a new pair of shoes.
To heck with this Maschinenpistole, I just want the standard pistol to get on the shelves!
That is the coolest gun I’ve ever seen…
Why can’t the NFA be repealed?
I agree that it needs a 16-18 inch barrel so they can actually sell it, but I would take it as is. I love that the stock holds another 90 rounds of ammunition. This 90 rounds plus the thirty in the gun should have a total energy of, if i can do math, nearly 36000 foot pounds. Round that down to 34000 because of the short barrel and it’s still impressive. Must have, must have now.
I’ve always wondered why 22WMR isn’t used in this sort of application. It’s one of my personal favorites. Besides, you can’t beat the cost vs. centerfire ammunition.
I agree about the barrel. It needs to be a bit longer, and beefer.
Ok, eyes glazed over as I was staring and I apparently didn’t see the three magazines stored in the stock. That right there with a 16″ barrel would be the ultimate survival gun. Blow my ar-7 out of the water.
The broomhandle lives on! Nice to see that people are still playing with the idea IMO.
Now, if that stock made it 3-round burst capable…
Wow! I want a 16″ carbine too.
Makes me think that FNH should have made a similar design with its Five seveN. With a 3 rounds burst or full auto firing mode, no one would still complain about 5.7 “lack of stopping power”, and with a stock that doubles as a holster, ala VP70, you could have at the same time a machinegun and a pistol.
Looks like a muzzle booster to me. But it is probably just to divert the shock wave away from the shooter.
How is the legal situation with regard to full-auto firearms in the U.S.?
Can private citizens buy new weapons, or only old ones that are already on the market?
It’s like a Grendel for the new millenium!
(Yes, I know who designed the P30.)
It should have drum magazine.
Very poor choice of range picture, he looks like a gang member with baggy pants and those shoes…
not the kind of image you want associated with your gun.
I love the 3 magazines in the stock, they need to sell the stock to those that want to fill out a form 1 and SBR it, it would be great for backpacking.
I would put a grip on the front rail.
The attachment points for the stock don’t seem very sturdy. Hopefully, a production version would correct that.
Finally, a gun truly uglier than the Glock…
Read “Note the comical flash hider” and nodded agreeingly.
Kel-Tec must buy those nice button head hex screws by the thousands.
Nice little piece here. Too bad if this gets into the wrong hands we’ll be in trouble. Powerful, short weapon; great for sport, terrible for crime.
Death to all Zombies.
Its been up on the Kel-Tec Owners Group forum for some time, now. Some pics showed up here:

… I was more excited when I thought it was chambered in .30 Carbine, actually.
That flash suppressor + a few dozen more greeblies would make it a good Star Wars prop, though.
It looks like loads of fun.
Is the conical flash hider designed to send the muzzle blast forward? Perhaps because your face would be closer to the muzzle than on a conventional pistol or carbine.
