French Weapons Exhibition

A reader emailed in these photos which he took at a weapons exhibition run by a Paratrooper Association. The expo was held in Chambery, France, during the weekend. Sadly these guns are all demilled to comply with French law. Nazi symbols, which are present on some German guns of WWII vintage, must be patched over.

These are repoductions.

KRISS KARD update

I am not an engineer, I do my best! It turns out I was slightly wrong about the recoiling mechanism on the KRISS KARD. The barrel is fixed and does not recoil. A telescopic1 bolt carrier (for lack of a better term) is what actuates the forward recoil system.

It is a very clever design. The fixed barrel should, in theory, improve accuracy (although many non-fixed barrel gun provide excellent accuracy) and make it easier to attach suppressors and other muzzle attachments. A carbine conversion kit would be a no-brainer for this gun.

  1. Telescopic means extends forward of the barrel. Telescopic bolts are commonly used in SMG designs because they save space and shift weight forward of the chamber. In this case the bolt and bolt carrier are separate.

TDI to be renamed “KRISS USA”

The Director of Marketing of KRISS Systems SA, the Swiss company that fully owns TDI, has told me that TDI will soon be officially known as KRISS USA. The company branding has been a source of confusion and this name change is welcome.

Mysterious Short Barreled FN FAL

I was emailed this image taken from the 1975 movie The Wild Geese. The movie, about a band of mercenaries, was filmed in South Africa. In one scene a merc is seen using a short barreled FN FAL (or R1, as the FAL was designated in South Africa).

A number of countries fielded limited numbers of shortened FAL rifles but I have never heard of them being used South African.

Guns in St Petersburg

I have seen photos of guns on Google Street Maps before, usually of men outside gun shops, but never any as close up as this photo which was captured by maps.Yandex.ru, a Russian equivalent to Google Street Maps.

The images seem to have been taken outside a gun or hunting club. The rifle pictured above appears to be a wooden stocked 7.62x39mm Saiga with a five round magazine. English Russia has more photos.

S&W M&P 15-22P Pistol

I don't think "cute" is the word that is supposed to come to mind when you look at a black rifle. The M&P 15-22P has a 6" barrel and a magazine capacity of 25 rounds. The MSRP is $585 and it will be shipping next month.

Palm Pistol update

Constitution Arms has made some changes to the design of their upcoming Palm Pistol. It will be chambered in .38 Special instead of 9mm Luger/Parabellum in order to paid extraction. Thankfully the combination lock was removed from the device! unfortunately it still contains, in my humble opinion, far to many safety gizmos. These include: two independently operable grip safeties, two trigger covers, latch safety, striker block and disengaged sear block.
