A lightweight AR-15

TD blogs about his lightweight AR-15 build. Unfortunately the Cav Arms, who made the lightweight polymer lower receiver he used, was forced to exit the firearms business.

Nikon “Spot On” scope software

Nikon has launched a handy online application called "Spot On". A user can select the Nikon scope and the ammunition they are using and then application will then generate a variety of printable charts and tables for the user to use at the range or in the field.

The application is written as a Java applet and on my Mac runs very slowly.

Call of Duty Effect #2

I was checking out my blog statistics and noticed that the Bushmaster ACR is no longer the biggest search term used to find The Firearm Blog. The current champion is the HK416. Why? It is featured on the game Battlefield: Bad Company 2 which was launched a few weeks ago. In the game it is called the M416 and has a standard M4 style stock, not the distinctive HK416 clubfoot stock, and oddly it appears to be a lefty version (ejection port is on the left side).

A close second in my search statistics is the Taurus Circuit Judge. Can anyone explain why this gun is generating so much interest?

Michaels Machines MM23E

The Michaels Machines MM23E is a semi automatic1 clone of the HK23E Light Machine Gun. This belt fed gun is chambered for 5.56mm and feeds from standard M27 links.

Before you get your hopes up, I should point out that it is selling for just under $12,000 (at HKParts)! Although it should be noted that it is still cheaper than the Bushmaster ACR icon wink Michaels Machines MM23E photo

Show firing on full auto with registered full auto sear.

Sadly the Rock 'n Roll setting is missing!

  1. It can be made legally fully automatic with a registered full auto sear ... thats if you can find one for sale and can afford it!

Magpul upcoming product list leaked?

My buddy over at Extreme Tolerance found this photo on Facebook. It purportedly shows a list of upcoming Magpul products and their launch date.

If this is real it will be confirmed as soon as one of those upcoming products is released.

UPDATE: It is real. It was taken on the first day of SHOT by the Canadian Gun Nutz crew with the cooperation of a Magpul employee.

Norinco Winchester Model 1897

Gunner’s Journal has reviewed the Norinco clone of the famous Winchester Model 1897 shotgun.

I know some will say that it can’t be a Norinco because imports of this brand have been halted by the government. That’s true to a point but the ban did not include shotguns. They can be difficult to find but they are out there.

Bushmaster ACR on GunBroker

Remember at the end of last year when a guy named Jesse James won a Bushmaster ACR? Well, he had much more restraint, and foresight, than I would have had. Instead of taking his new baby to the range the moment he got it, he put it in his safe without firing a shot.

Now he has Listed it on Gun Broker and the current bid is $16,000 and the reserve has not yet been met! Apparently he already has a buyer who is willing to pay the reserve price.

Everyday No Day Off has also blogged about this auction.

Toys R Us enters gun accessory market!!!

If I had not seen the webpage with my own eyes, I would have not believed it was real! UPDATE: The page has been taken offline! UPDATE2: But a .243 bore sighter is still available! UPDATE3: Scroll down for an explanation.

The product reviews are priceless ...

this product is great!! my 8 year old son's precision 300 win mag rifle is already sighted in but we found another use for this. when we can't make it to the range for live fire, he can lay prone on our second story balcony and practice holds and dry firing on the neighbors and people walking down the street! i can observe where his point of aim is through a spotting scope while laying next to him. this made a great training aid! THANK YOU TOYS R US for carrying such a great product!

...

Works perfectly. Other kids play with balloons. Mine are ready when the balloon goes up.

Thanks TRU.

...

Worked great for granny and her 300. but she has more fun making the neighbors cat and dog run in circles. the cat will actually climb the wall after the little red dot.

...

When we tried these out on pre-schoolers rifles in 300 Winchester, they worked remarkably well. However, caution should be exercised when using lasers around small children as they tend to leave the switch in the "on" position and thereby shorten battery life. Our school is now ordering more so that each child will independently have sighting capability for any new weapons he or she later procures. Thank you Toys-R-Us for stocking this hard to find item!

[ Many thanks to DJ for emailing me the link. ]

UPDATE: Nil discovered the problem ...

GSI Commerce runs the Toy "R" Us website for them... they also happen to manage Dick's Sporting Goods' eCommerce as well, and it seems there's some database crossover going on.

You can pull quite a few item numbers from Dick's and get them to 'show up' when copied into the Toys "R" Us url.

I have tried this and it works for some products. This is a major security flaw!
