Danger Room reports on a unique pistol made by German firm Armatix. The gun is armed by a wristwatch and disarmed when the watch is out of range. The .22 pistol sells for 7000 EUR ($9750)!
Obviously this device is very impractical in the real world. The bright green light shining into the user face would make the sights very hard to use at night, not to mention making the user an easy target.

As many of you saw, I had to resort to public begging to get into the Advance Armament Corporation party aka. BIG BANG 2010. Fortunately Cara Brittingham took pity on me and hooked me up with tickets not only for myself but also for my talented photographers Bryan and Isaac.
I admit to being one of those smart-asses you find lurking in gun shops who insist on using the correct pronunciation for the names of foreign guns Laurent was kind enough to record an MP3 for us which demonstrates the pronunciation of French firearms and manufactures.
The transcript of the words he is saying is below. I suggest reading along as you listen to the audio.

NEW DELHI: Maoists may have been dependent on weapons looted from armouries but now they have developed the expertise to clone sophisticated weapons, including assault rifles of AK series, in a development that should worry security agencies as they brace for the offensive against the ultras.
...
The CRPF also seized as many as 59 different types of instruments, which were used to manufacture and assemble these rifles and various types of pistols. An official said, “Around 100 personnel of the CRPF’s 190th Battalion conducted the operation and arrested one Maoist. Though the rest of the ultras fled away, they left behind the instruments used in making not only duplicate AK series rifles but also pistols of different makes.”
While you can laugh at the AK being called "sophisticated", the fact is that is a capable, albeit simple, modern weapon that can hold its own on the battlefield. That is can be easily built in a cave means it is not going to disappear from the battlefield for a very long time.

Over the past 6 months I have been following the Marines sly procurement of M45 1911 pistols (formally MEU(SOC) pistol) in small parts. The Marines have just procured 150,000 rounds of Federal Premium Gold Medal .45 Auto 185GR FMJ-SWC Match Ammunition.
The procurement is notable because the rounds are not loaded with classic 230 gr hardball bullets, but the lighter and faster 185 grain FMJ-SWC bullets.

UPDATE: Daniel pointed out that the purchase was for the USMC Competition-In-Arms Program and that the solicitation appears to have been canceled.
A reader emailed me these photos of a revolver which belonged to his Grandfather during WWI. It looks to me like a fancy Webley. Does anyone know what model gun it is and who made it?
Many of you know but I'm not a big fan of the bug-out survival strategy. In a nutshell you're voluntarily becoming, a refugee, but looking at the recent disasters in New Orleans and Haiti it is obvious that some sort of bug-out bagbug-out bag and strategy is not only feasible but required for anyone who is prepared.
