Another new gun on display at DSEi was this H&K HK416 sub-carbine / PDW. What is very interesting about this gun is the buttstock and upper receiver design.
It has a much shortened buffer tube and a collapsible stock in the H&K G3 / MP5 style.
This firearm appears to be positioned in direct competition to the Sub-Compact Weapon (SCW) that Colt is developing. The SCW features a similarly shortened buffer tube.

I think the H&K design is much more elegant. The H&K stock pull straight out, while the Colt stock must be unfolded out and then down before it can be adjusted for length.
A close-up of the H&K Stock.
Now if H&K would just stop hating us and start selling this nifty upper to us civilians!
Big thank you to Lusaka for the information and photo.
UPDATE:
REMOV has kindly provided me with these photos that he took of the new H&K. The gun has a 9.3" barrel.
Many thanks REMOV!
A firm named Nanocomp Technologies is being funded by the Pentagon to develop lightweight vehicle and body armor. CNN reports:
In April, Lashmore had a mechanical multicaliber gun shoot bullets at different versions of his sheet, each less than a fifth of an inch thick, at a speed of 1,400 feet per second. Four sheets were breached, but three showed no damage. Lashmore and his 35 employees were ecstatic.
"We didn't expect it to work at all," he admits.
According to Nanocomp's website.
our spun conductive yarns exhibit breaking strengths up to 3 GPa expressed or in other terms: 1.5 Nt/Tex or 450,000 psi and with fracture toughness that is higher than aramids (such as Kevlar® or Twaron®). Our CNT sheets have breaking strengths, without binders, that range from 500 MPa to 1.2 GPa depending upon tube orientation. Aluminum breaks at 500 MPa, carbon steel breaks around 1 GPa.
...
Extremely Lightweight – Less than half the weight of aluminum
Not being an engineer or physicist, I really don't know what to make of their claims. Feel free to chime if you understand this stuff.
Many thanks to Mark for emailing me the link.
The Cheaper Than Dirt Blogger has written a how-to on loading Bulgarian/Romanian/Chinese AK drum magazines. It is an interesting read for any firearm enthusiast nut.
Steve Doran proves that any gun can be accurate if you take the time to practice with it. He takes his Smith & Wesson Model 60 snub nosed revolver (1 5/8 inch barrel) and, firing 158 grain .38 Special factory ammunition and manages great accuracy at 100 yards!
Steve has a write up about the shoot over at his website.
I love this photo.

If the suave gentlemen in the above photo had a beautiful woman beside him, I think the scene could hardly be distinguished from a Bond movie. Style, sophistication and an incredible amount of high explosive firepower!
The side mounted pistol grip makes this a very compact weapon for its class.
Quite frankly, this is an awesome piece of hardware. I can't say much else than that. I hope to be writing more about this weapon in the near future.
A big thanks to Groot Mamba for the photos.
The president of HK-USA mentioned in an interview that H&K has sold a license to Umarex for the production of .22 LR rifles patterned and branded after the H&K 416, MP5 and MP7. From HKPRO forums:
.22's: HK has licensed Umarex to produce .22-cal versions of the 416, MP5, and MP7. At least some of these should be on display by SHOT Show in January 2010. It has not yet been determined which models will be released first.
At this years SHOT Show Umarex unveiled a licensed rifle patterned after and branded the Colt M4.
I am sure of you are familiar with, and have lusted after, the StG 44 clones built by the German firm Sport-Systeme Dittrich. I am very pleased to see that PTR 91 Inc., known for their H&K rifles built from parts kits, will be importing a limited quantity of the StG 44's. The imports have been given the designation PTR 44.

Purists and collectors will be pleased to see that the gun chambers the original 7.92x33mm Kurz. The rest of us would probably like nothing more than to blast away with the legendary rifle, but not with the relatively expensive ammunition. Prvi Partizan still produce the 7.92x33mm, which sees limited military and paramilitary use, and it can be purchased from Midway for $13.50 for a box of 20 rounds.
The Prvi 124 grain load generates 1386 ft/lbs of muzzle energy.
Many thanks to Jesse for the link. (Jesse, sorry I forgot to credit you earlier)
UPDATE: In the comments below randomhero58 points out two sources of much cheaper 7.92mm Kurz.
Until the end of the month Marlin are taking orders for a limited edition of their Model 1894 in 44 Remington Magnum and Model 336 in .30-30 Win.
They feature stocks and fore-ends made with Number 1 Grade American Black Walnut and a polished deep blue metal finish.
Like Jim, who emailed me these photos, it makes me want to cry to see these magazines abused in this way. I would pay top dollar to buy them by the ton!
