DSEi 09: Benelli Super Nova Short Barreled Shotgun

On display at the DSEi 2009 defense expo was this cut down Benelli Super Nova pump action shotgun. Apparently it is popular with South American Law Enforcement.

In this short and stock-less configuration it is more like a pistol than it is a shotgun.

The information and photo were kindly provided by Lusaka who took the time to hunt for, and photograph, new and interesting arms on display at the expo. Thanks Lusaka, your efforts are appreciated. More cool guns from the show will be posted tomorrow.

I want to purchase my first shotgun and have decided to go with the benelli supernova. I will use this mainly to shoot clays but also want the tactical capabilities. My question is can I buy the field version and tactical barrel as well, can they be switced out ? If you can help please e-mail me at jonjon4311 [at] aol [dot] com .

It’s a shotgun with a very short barrel and no stock. I don’t think it was intended for use at a distance where sights would make a difference.

Hmm, no sights, no lasers, no real way to aim. I guess South American cops like shooting people in bathrooms, elevators and phone booths.

Thats an interesting finish. I don’t think I’ve seen any gun with that kind of finish.

    No problem, glad to help!

I have sent you an email as I did not accurately state the exact name which is a Super Nova before anyone jumps in and blames Steve.

I think that has to be a Super Nova. The Nova buttstock and receiver are molded as one piece.

I have a Nova that was a Valentine’s Day present from my wife several years ago. I loved the ergonomics and the shell ejection button, but it kicked like a mule. I added both the mercury recoil reducer AND a limbsaver pad at the same time and it made a huge difference. Now the recoil with 2 3/4 shells is pretty much on par with most semi-autos I’ve fired.

I assume this shotgun is primary use as a door breaching tool.

Here is the US military version of it in action.
