Johnny Depp takes his kids plinking

Jonny Depp has just gone right up in my estimation after reading that he learnt to shoot as a youngster and now takes his own children shooting. Yahoo News reports:

Johnny Depp is keen on teaching his children to handle guns.

The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star, who learnt shooting at the age of six in Kentucky where he grew up, wants to pass on his experience to his kids.

“We would just go out and line up a bunch of cans and shoot with rifles, handguns and at times, submachine guns,” the Daily Star quoted him as saying.

“When I was a kid it was a controlled atmosphere, we weren’t shooting at humans – we were shooting at cans and bottles mostly. I will most certainly take my kids out for target practice,” he added.

There is at least one real man left in Hollywood!

A friend’s cousin takes him out on his land in the MD/KY area every year to hunt. Or so he says. :)

I’ll admit, its nice that he is teaching firearms and proper handling to his children. But beyond that, he’s on my list of “punch myself in head till I can seperate the actor from the man so that I’ll still see his movies.”

Good for him, and his kids.
I think I’d rather start my kids with proper target shooting tough. Cans and bottles somehow doesn’t seem like a good foundation for proper marksmanship…
And it goes without saying that children should never be allowed to handle firearms until they fully understand and adhere to the four safety rules.

And thus ends the career of Mr. Depp.

To suggest that minors, or anyone for that matter, can use firearms, submachineguns no less, responsibly is. . . irresponsible. [/sarcasm]

Amen! I am so sick of actors/politicians/anyone saying no one should own guns because they don’t like guns (or worse – have never even shot one).

AND he voluntarily lives in France with his family. Quite the anomaly!

    Shooting bottles and cans?

That must be hard to do in France….

    Steve,

Thanks for this good news – with Hollywood, one never knows when the next round of anti gun BS would be offered up as propaganda, even by people like Steven Spielberg who own guns and occasionally hunt.

Johnny Depp joins Eva Longoria who has spoken to the media about hunting with her father when she was a young girl – I am not sure if she still hunts and shoots but I am told that she owns guns. The NRA did try to reach her some time ago but she had to stay away – Hollywood has a way of ostracizing those who do not fall in with the views that the senior il-liberals espouse over there. In any case, Depp is a big star and I doubt that he would be victimized as he is a big earner for the major studios and bosses in LA LA Land (pun wholly intended.)

I hope more actors who like guns and hunting will come out of the closet and make their support for the shooting sports known.

Mehul, I did not know about Eva Longoria!

    Steve,

Just did a quick web search and found this:

    http://evalongoria.celebden.com/?cat=5

Quote [I’m a tomboy and I love shooting guns and running around,ā€ smiles the petite star. ā€œI prefer that any day to getting dressed up and putting on sexy lingerie.ā€] End Quote.

This was widely reported on television and in the il=liberal media which voiced open disapproval of her when she made these remarks and some more about going hunting with her father.

    Best wishes and good hunting!

Depp has always minded his own business and lived the way he wants. That is a big part of his charm.

Awhile back, Depp made the following comments to a German magazine, and then promptly denied them when they were reported in the US.

”America is dumb, it’s like a dumb puppy that has big teeth that can bite and hurt you, aggressive.”

”I’d like them (his kids) to see America as a toy, a broken toy. Investigate it a little, check it out, get this feeling and then get out.”

I was not much of a fan of his until the Pirates movies, and then I saw Blow after the first two. I have to say, certainly has made me a fan of his, but this just puts him up another notch or two. Cool beans.
