		<description>Back in the &#039;80s, a friend worked on a similar project for a weapon to use in space. Seems that a .45 1911, on a center-of-mass fitting, worked better than anything else. [There are lubricants that will keep a 1911 working in space, honest!] The laser had to have a &quot;constant on&quot; setting, so that it could be used as a knife/sword. Punching a hole didn&#039;t quarantee the target would be taken out of action.
Also, there&#039;s the problem of firing up the laser. To be weapon-grade, you&#039;d need much more electricity than mentioned in the article, or chemicals that are more of a danger to the user than the laser is to the target.
This, of course, is all heresay or rumor.</description>
