We use RAP4 less lethal M4s for protection against hand thrown projectile attacks (rocks, bottles, whatever) and also carry Glocks for armed attacks. Often, if facing a crowd throwing things, several people in the crowd will have firearms. This is be a great solution for us. Exurbankevin hit the nail on the head. Why on earth would you mount your sidearm to a rifle? It totally defeats the purpose of having a sidearm. There is absolutely no logical application for this unit. If you run out of ammo, you reload the gun. If you run out of ammo, and have somebody in your sights, how the heck are you supposed to aim the secondary?? You simply lower your rifle and draw your sidearm like you are supposed to do. This is one of the worst ideas that I have ever seen. They liked them in urban conditions. It is combat proven as far as IDF testing in conflicts go. It was all over the tv programs back in the 90s.
