243 in semi auto if fired rapidly has hugh problem with throat erosion - several people on www.Falfiles.com have convered their FAL's and found they will be getting a new barrel in very short order - same if you did something like a 22-250 but even quicker.

The 7MM 08 is a great round in a ar-10. It has better ballistic performance than a 308, and it uses a heavier bullet than a .243. My Ar-10 in 7mm 08 is very accurate with 1 moa. It something armalite should have done a long time ago instead of producing the .243.

I'd love to have one in 260. The 260 is my new favorite cartridge and I am amazed how it compares balastically to the 308. Once parts are once again available I hope to rebarrel a DPMS LR-308 to the 260.

I agree.

What I would like to see is someone start a non-profit company with a charter to standardize/modernize the AR10 and other old firearms designs like the AK.

It should benefit the industry and customer alike greatly. Third party companies can still patent their inventions but those products will work across the board. Like we currently see with the AR15 and 1911.

Wonder why they didn't add .243 in there? It would seem to be the second choice after .308, in terms of popularity.

Open Source the AR10. CAD it, name it (because AR10 is copyrighted by Armalite), build it, patents any improvements (so no company can claim it was their idea), give it out royal free.

This is the reason why the AR family isn't going away. Modular systems and not the bullpup is the future of small arms.

The manufactures needs to standardize the AR10. They would make a lot of money if the parts are interchangeable instead of proprietary just like the AR15.
