Maybe it is just the new 590a1 model but 590's for sale to civilians is nothing new. Almost bought one a few years back.

Has anyone had any type of trouble with the 590? I've used the 870 in my profession, however, I really dislike the where the safety and the slide release is located. I was doing some training with other law enforcement officers and had a chance to shoot the 590 and was impressed. I’m currently looking to replace my “retired” wing master 870 to a newer full stock unit.
Please Advise.

Shotgun are fun are fun to shoot. Rem 870 or Mossberg 500/590 are the standard shotgun to get. As long as you have the receiver everything in the shotgun can be change relatively easily. Stick with those three model and you'll be fine.

Then there is the Model 97 that allows you to hold the trigger down to keep pumping the lead out. I always have a kick doing that. Fun times.

I know so little about shotguns. I know I want/need one. I just don't have a clue about what I want/need in a shotgun.

*sighs*

So much to learn, and so little time left to learn it in since Obama got elected.
