I'm with Axion. Get an XCR. Bushmaster, much like the idiot who currently resides illegally at 1600 Penn Ave, are traitors who promised us something then renigged at the prospect of a military contract. The XCR is a bit heavy, I'm not going to lie, but it's reliable and gas piston operated and American Made. On a side note, if I ever won the lottery, I'd buy HK and sell it to Colt.

Buy a Robinson XCR and be done with it already.

It's here today, it works, its made in the USA, and its not made of plastic.

Pick your caliber: 5.56, 6.5, 6.8, 7.62x39

I hope this rifle lives up to the hype. A very unique platform, very simple to break down.
1. With regard to the M4, it is a superb weapons system. Talk to any Marine back from a tour in Iraq or Soldier from Afghanistan and most will tell you that the M4 worked just fine. The American public has been led to believe that the M16 weapons system is unreliable. This information is from 35+ years ago when ammunition was garbage and the soldiers were under the impression that the system never needed to be cleaned. There is no perfect weapons platform out there.
2. The FN is a fine rifle but very heavy, cumbersome and the recoil is prohibitive for quick relocation and re-acquisition of the target.
3. The AK is a work horse, but, it too has its own problems. I'll take the SKS any day over the AK myself, but that's a whole other discussion.

I believe that this country can, and should provide an excellent, (as in not merely okay) weapon to our troops. We have the smarts, we have the technology. I think it's criminal that overseas contractors should be considered for weapons that we can certainly produce here. Recently Camillus Cutlery, near where I grew up, had to shut their doors because the US government decided that Chinese made KaBars were cheaper. It's not just the corporations selling us out, it's our own damn government, and it makes me ill.

The Masada was designed in an amazing amount of time, just as other weapons like the Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star was. I would just hope that whatever weapon comes out of this is all it's made out to be, and becomes the next generation combat rifle, homegrown, All-American. Gee, wouldn't that generate jobs? I'd go to work for Bushmaster. Ruger BTW is building a gas piston AR now - another option. The hell with HK.

Another thing that would generate jobs is a change to the 6.8SPC, which has proved it's worth. I believe that this cartridge should be standardized in our rifles, carbines, and LMGs and will serve us well.

First off- after 20 years as a paratrooper and Infantryman in temperatures ranging from -65 to 135 degrees, the AR is a sorry excuse for an assault weapon when compared with others. If you have seen French commandos in action, which jdun1911 obviously has not and I have, you would know better than to base opinions on their tactical performance or expertise. They use the AR simply because of money and politics, just like we do. Extreme cold has a far greater effect on metal than it does modern polymers and I have seen AR's literally freeze in Alaskan winters, and not the numerous plastic parts. In a recent study (results published in The Army Times), the current AR had more malfunctions and stoppages than three competitors combined, all of which were piston driven in contrast to gas impingement (the AR). I have personally heard a 4 Star general say "The M4 is not the best but its pretty good" when trying to convince Soldiers of this myth that the AR platform is uperior. Again, we still use it because of money and politics.

Plastic aren't good in extreme environment. At one end plastic can be warp, on the other end it become brittle. My cousin's Glock 22C frame warped upward on the tip of barrel when he shot over 20 rounds of very hot reloads. It doesn't effect the gun performance but the plastic did warp.

The XM8 plastic housing did warp or melted from what I understand in testing. The SCAR program came out off it because the military didn't want to get stuck with the POS.

There is no rifle current suppress the majority of advantages that the AR has. Even the French commandos are using ARs in Afghanistan.

I don't think they will get a contract, I think the Army have no intention of switching from the M4 but I think that is politics, nothing to do with being plastic or not.

Can't blame them. There were so much hype and Magpul had to pull the rug under them by giving it to Bushmaster.

If the Masada is made out of metal instead of plastic it might have a chance. Bushmaster like HK will do almost anything to get an US military contract. That's not going happen tho. Well maybe when hell freeze over.

The Masada at its heart is a repackage AR18 or an upgraded G36/XM8. Nothing wrong with it and I think it is a great rifle. It is much better then the G36/XM8.

Don't wait for it tho. It's not going to come out by the 1st quarter of next year. Bushmaster want to enter the Masada into the new Army rifle contest since the SCAR was a failure and before it XM8.

Masada will have the same fate as SCAR and XM8 because the US military does not fight their wars at room temperature.
